Anyone want to start up discussion on what they expect to see from the Frisco League this year? Obviously, Licking looks like the favorites again this year, but with 5 of 9 coaches new to their school or to coaching period, it looks to be an interesting year! Might be one of the most balanced years in recent memory. Injuries may play a huge role in where teams end up!

The Frisco League is Licking and everyone else...no debate there. I think it will be interesting to see how Newburg and Richland look with their new coaches. Both rosters are solid.

Should be one heck of a matchup between South Callaway and Licking to start the year in the Show Me-Frisco Shootout...should be a top 5 matchup in the first game of the year!

Did away with the Frisco/Show-Me Showdown. Majority of the Show-Me schools didn't want to do it anymore.

Crocker returned all but a post player and is in Year 2 with coach Mueller. They should be much improved.

Newburg will still battle depth issues but have a solid top 4.

Licking returns 4 starters and 6 of top 9 including Holland.

Richland will have 2 high power scorers and a solid big.

Dixon may not have enough girls for a team. Shame for the Sinclair girl becuase she can play.

That would be horrible if Dixon can't field a team this year. Wonder what the issue is. Especially considering they ended up towards the top of the conference with so few players last year. Thought their coach did a really nice job with the team last year.

There are 300 kids at that school, so 150 girls. How can they not get 8 to play basketball?

That seems to be a common issue at a lot of small schools. Licking should be the best of that bunch, but you know st james will play hard and compete.

If Dixon can't field a team, would the Sinclair kid or any of the girls that want to, be able to play at a neighboring district? Or would they have to try out for the boys team?

1. Newburg
2. Richland
3. Licking
4. Crocker
5. Stoutland
6. Dixon
7. Plato
8. Iberia
9. Laquey

Having Licking lose to both Newburg and Richland as a Final Four team last year in Class 3 is a bold prediction. Also, Dixon, Stoutland and Plato all finished ahead of Crocker last year. I like your conviction, though!

Newburg finished 2nd last year and returned entire team and upgraded at head coach. They should have won their class 1 district last year.
Last year finish
1. Licking 8-0 (had a close game at stoutland won others by 20+) return 3 starters and added good frosh class.
2. Newburg 6-2 (lost to Lick and Plato)
3. Stoutland 6-2- graduated good PG and coach left for Richland. Return good senior class
4. Dixon-graduated 3. Return best kid but #s will be huge problem.
5. Richland-graduated some role players. Return best kids and very successful veteran new coach.
6. Plato-graduated 2 of top 3. Will have 3rd coach in 3 seasons. Good Sophomore group
7. Crocker-graduated good post player. Should be much improved if healthy
8. Iberia--best kid back. Add a huge freshman center
9. Laquey-new coach again.

My picks:
2nd and 3rd is a toss up for me

1) Licking
2) Richland
3) Newburg
4) Stoutland
5) Dixon
6) Crocker
7) Iberia
8) Plato
9) Laquey

Please explain the upgrade of Newburg at Head Coach.

The old coach never seemed to want to be there. Why would you leave now...the next 3 years plus Newburg will be solid.

There is no way Plato falls to 8th.

That may be, but isn't the new coach fresh out of college with zero experience? I don't see how that is an upgrade. Maybe he left for personal reasons.

Plato could quite possibly fall to 8th. 3rd Coach in 3 years, not a lot of varsity experience coming back. They do have a good sophomore class, but idk how much basketball coaching experience their new coach has.

I believe Newburg's coach left for his own personal reasons.

Their new coach seems to have them heading in the right direction. They played pretty well for her over the summer with little time to put in any offense or defenses.

I see their lack of depth as an issue. Plus, unless the new coach is changing things, it's hard to sit back in a zone and win at the upper levels. Most of your upper echelon teams are going to have shooters who can make you come out and guard them. There's a nice core of girls, but if they have to go to their bench, they are in trouble.

Let's change the conversation a little bit. If you could pick a starting 5 from all of the Frisco League Schools, who would your starting 5 be?

Or maybe a 10 person team.

Whichever...

Karlee Holland-Licking
Kylie Taylor-Licking
Miranda Moss- Richland
Katelyn Cole- Richland
Brooke Sinclair- Dixon

6th man- Kylie Ingram- Licking
Dark horse- Abby Sullins- Licking (Frosh)

Abby Moncrief from Licking will be a load this year. She was all district all Frisco and all region.
Affolter is the Dennis Rodman of the Frisco. She plays with a chip on her shoulder and mixes it up with whoever. She is mean!
Stoutland's Sein can light it up vs a zone or man if she gets her feet set. $$$$
Word is the head coach at Plato is in title only. The two guys they have in place will do a good job with that bunch. Todd got froze out last year by the seniors. She's a 16ppg easy.

"Dennis Rodman of the Frisco."
That is pretty great. Haven't heard a worm comparison in a long time.

Blindside20...you asked for opinions on top 5 or 10 players in Frisco, but you never gave us your list. I’m curious to see yours.

I tend to agree with most others’ posts concerning top 5 players. My top players would include:
Karlee Holland
Claire Affolter
Brooke Sinclaire
Miranda Moss
Abby Moncrief

Of course there are other players that rank right up there with these girls and could easily be substituted in their place. If I were coaching a team, I would gladly accept:
Katelyn Cole
Kylie Taylor
Melanie Hubbs
Bailey Brookshire

As far as Claire Affolter being compared to Dennis Rodman, I would tend to agree that she can definitely frustrate opposing players and has more hustle than many other players I’ve seen. Like Rodman, she has an uncanny ability to get rebounds...it’s unbelievable for someone her size. She also does a good job against girls that are much bigger. She had something like 9 triple doubles last year and no telling how many double doubles.

Also, Katelyn Cole is invaluable to Richland’s team. The same could probably be said for Miranda Moss, but when Katelyn gets into foul trouble or isn’t in the game for whatever reason, Richland just isn’t the same team.

I would have to place Newburg above Richland in the standings. And of course I pick Licking to win the conference. Newburg beat Richland twice last year but Richland had some impressive games against non conference teams. They beat Belle by 20 and beat Wheatland and Russellville and played Miller, Walnut Grove, and Steelville to close games. I’m only placing Newburg above Richland because Newburg beat them twice last season. But it seems like Newburg really choked against some teams that they should’ve beaten. Licking will win the conference because they have so much talent returning. After reaching the final four last season and returning virtually everyone, it’s hard to imagine them not mopping the floor with the other Frisco teams.

I never asked for a top 5, I asked for a starting 5 or a 10 person team. If I wanted a starting 5 I'd want girls I thought would work together well and fill roles. So, I'd probably have it look something like this, granted, there are some teams I have not seen very much at all.

Not in any particular order, just whoever comes to mind first
Holland-hard not to start with a multiple conference POY
Moss-can score at all levels
Affolter-plays extremely hard on both ends
Taylor-played big minutes as a Freshman, handles the ball well, but also rebounds
Spencer-long, hard-nosed player who really stepped up last year

My problem with this group is that most, if not all, play zone defense primarily, and I don't like zone defense, but I think they are all capable to learn to play man.

Off the bench-
Pribble-really like how hard she competes; unselfish, also fundamentally sound; when they need things to happen, she's usually involved
Sinclair-scorer; again, plays primarily zone
Cole-long and athletic
Becker-understands help defense and takes a lot of charges
Todd-need a shooter off the bench, good Basketball IQ

Others could be subbed, but I stopped at 10. Again, I'm not saying these are the top 10 players in the conference.

Who are the two guys they have helping? I don't know if she's a 16 PPG player. If she is, it may not be an efficient 16 PPG. Teams are going to game plan for her this year and it remains to be seen if she is able to create her own shot. Teams had to worry about Hall and the big girl inside. This year they won't have that experience to lean on.

Holzer from dixon and the guy who helped out the boys last year. I believe he is in a wheelchair.

Small school ball also nets small school officials...which means if u play man u WILL be in foul trouble. The closer u get to a city the more physical the kids are allowed to play....especially on the girls side.
