With the Dome in limbo now that the Rams are gone. I can't imagine that St. Louis will keep the facility up just for MSHSAA football championships. Maybe if they get and Arena League team.
Does this mean we go back to rotating the state title?
I would support moving the games around.

The Dome has all kinds of other functions throughout the year. Even the football field itself has other functions including hosting college games and a large BOA (Bands of America) Regional Marching Band Competition. I understand other cities wanting to host (as other cities would no doubt like to host basketball etc.) but than can easily stay in the dome if they want to.

If they did change it, it would tough to get used to saying to our kids, "our goals is to get to Plaster", "Lets go to Bearcat Stadium" We might have to explain what we are talking about. Every knows what you mean when you say, "our goal is to get to the dome!"

I am sure they would also understand, "Lets get to Arrowhead" lol

I don't really see how the departure of the rams would affect the state hs football games. It's not like the city is going to tear the facility down. If anything, they are going to need these type of events more than ever to keep the facility viable. I don't care what people say about it being old or outdated by nfl standards... anyone that says that is out of touch with reality. It's a nice facility.

That being said, I still would like the idea of moving the location so that it's not always in the same city. Personally there really isn't much of anything I like about going to STL. I agree that being indoors has a ton of perks but there are a handful of other great facilities in the state. Outdoors games appeal to me more than indoor games, though I know not everyone agrees.

I suspect if an official poll were to be taken, the majority would want to keep it at the dome in stl.

IF the weather isn't too bad I think Arrowhead would be great to host the championships. I'm sure teams in the KC area would love it.

1) Will they let the facility go, most importantly the surface?
2) Will rent change?
3) Multiple sights might create a shortage of workers

Missouri State's new upgrades would create a great venue IMO. I've been to State Championship games at Arrowhead, Ed Jones, and Missouri State (early 90s) and MSU had the best atmosphere of all of them mostly because the stadium felt full.

If you haven't been there they tore down old visitor bleachers, got rid of the track, built nice bleachers on East side and moved them in tight.

From a Webb City perspective I'm about 98% certain that the players would prefer to play a state championship in the dome. As a fan I think Missouri State is a great venue for hosting championship games.

It seats about 17,000. More than enough for the fans without the stadium looking empty if 5-6K are in attendance.

In terms of workers do you mean people to run chains, gameday ops, etc?
On the KS side they use colleges which means you have their sports info department running the stats, game day ops people handling tickets, scoreboards, announcing etc.
Going to multiple locations wouldn't be as hard as you'd think.

It wouldn't be hard to find people to do this stuff. But multiple locations would suck for fans. Which I'm sure will play no factor in the decision.

Keep in mind that the Missouri legislature questioned MSHSAA's $180,000 annual payment for the Dome and they were also critical of another $60,000 to $100,000 in payments to MIZZOU

MSHSAA is also considering splitting off the 8-man and Class 6 championships and playing them a week earlier.

I would think stadiums with field turf would have an advantage over grass fields because they would hold up better than a grass surface.

You can not get a more central location than Columbia, Missouri. Plenty of stands to fit the crowd right in the heart of the state.

I don't know for a fact but I think I read on here that SEC rules prohibit them hosting state championship games. Sounds like a petty rule if true but I excluded Mizzou for that reason. If Missouri would be allowed to host I would think maybe swap 2/4/6 and 1/3/5/8-man championship games between MU and MSU.

No place in the state is more than a half day's drive. Being in the center of the state is not that big of a deal, IMO.

Why would they want to have it at Michigan State?

If you play all or part of the State Championships at Missouri State that would be the best football played on that field all year

I agree with you if that is a rule in the SEC then that is such a petty rule. However, if it is a rule in football don't you think that it would be a rule in basketball as well? Just a thought. The idea of swapping between Missouri and Missouri State every year would be interesting. Except there are those that really do enjoy watching all of the games during the weekend. So that seems like it would put a huge damper on the event.

It is not a rule Alabama and Auburn rotate championships each year as does Mississippi State and Ole Miss. Mizzou playing Arkansas on the Saturday after Thanksgiving would be a problem.

well, Kansans too. They like seeing their kids play.
Too bad Sporting Park (where the NCAA D2 title game now resides) is in the Legends/Speedway district of KCK..............would be the perfect venue for the HSFB championships!

Past two years Mizzou has been playing Arkansas the Friday after Thanksgiving as long as CBS still aires the game. If that is the case then you could play state championship games Saturday and Sunday, or you could play them on different weekends like basketball.

I haven't been in Springfield in a while. I've heard it's gotten a bit sketchy lately with a major bump in crime. I get that STL is not some grand utopia and everything was fine there for games, but do you think that might play a part in MoState getting passed?

I hope they keep the games in the dome. ive been to state championship games in iowa, in the uni dome, Missouri, and Idaho, Idaho played the games closer to the schools that made it to the championship, if both were close to the north then they went to u of I, if closer to the east they went Isu, some played at bsu but a lot of schools on the west side still would go east to isu because it was a heck of a lot nicer to play in a dome, and if you have been to holt arena at isu the st louis dome makes that look like a practice facility

Agree! Be perfect but on wrong side of the line.

Northwest would also be a great venue. But hotel space and the fact they are usually in playoffs that time of year would be problem.

Springfield is perfectly fine. I go there often and lived there for awhile. Supposedly it has a relatively high crime rate but I think that is mostly contained to the neighborhoods in the north central part of the city, which most people never even see or pass through that area because there is no reason to go there. In general Springfield is a nice city and would be a good host for state championships. The downtown area, which was almost totally abandoned 15 years ago is now full of life with tons of great restaurants and shops. The renovated plaster stadium and the new JQH arena are excellent facilities and MSU in general is a very nice campus. The biggest negative in my mind would be that there is only one hotel I can think of within walking distance of Plaster, and it's a pretty long walk.

I still go to Springfield and I like how you use the word "mostly contained" But yes the crime rate has not risen it has sky rocketed in the last few years. Just follow the trial on the news right now about the elderly couple to see it effects everybody in Springfield not just certain areas and you cannot turn on the TV and not hear of a shooting, murder or something going on. Springfield citizens and the media just chose to ignore the facts and keep their rose colored glasses on about the crime rate and say it is just in these certain areas, but if they don't get a handle on it before long the town will be a toilet bowl. The shooting in Walmart was just south from Battlefield and Kickapoo, that use to be a nice area, but crime is moving over it knows no borders.
