This is the equivalent of having a football team that can’t make the exchange from the center to the QB. 45 Ks and 3 walks so far. Can’t catch a pop up or a throw at second.
Drop F bombs in the locker room like a tough guy.

Those F bombs made Shildt look very insecure. You had just won a big series and that is what you are focused on? The Cardinals in this series are the weakest minded team I have ever seen in 50+ years of watching religiously. This is a total collapse.

They gave up before stepping on the field.
7-4 now, with plenty of time left and they're about to get into the middle of the Nat's pen, something they haven't done this series. Gotta hold the line now.

7 Ks in a row for Goldie. Corbin gutted an 88 mph fastball and Goldie didn’t touch it. 3 & 4 hitter are 0-6 with 6 Ks so far.

Do you remember Jack Clark or Albert Pujols or Jim Edmonds or any Cardinals ever striking out 7 times in a row during the playoffs?

Edmonds and Rolen were 1-30 for in the 2004 World Series. A big part of the sweep

Goldie and Ozuna don't look like they're seeing the ball well. Some of the Ks are just pathetic.

Random nitpicks here: you really should have pinch run for Molina here, getting a second run here is too big to leave him in the game. And I cannot believe DeJong walked instead of striking out.

But they never struck out 7 times in a row, which was the question.

They held the line, bro. Lost 4 straight.

Still had to score and did have their chance in the 8th but pretty good for the pen to do what they did against this lineup. That 10 run thang they had against the Braces did em in I guess. :(

What did them in was they had inconsistent hitters all year with great run prevention. That won’t get it done in the post season. Not one STL hitter landed in the top 10 in any hitting category except Ks.

Addition by subtraction for the Nats ... Bryce Harper.
Yeah, all you have to do is find a 20 year old who plays like the second coming of Ken Griffey Jr. and you can forget Bryce Harper ever existed. Super easy, something the Cards can clearly replicate next year.

It was really frustrating to watch Goldie and O struggle in the LCS, but holy cow was the rest of the lineup awful in both series. There's not a single player besides those two and Martinez who had a 600 OPS in the playoffs. Fowler, Molina, Carp, Wong, Edman, DeJong, and Bader were all bad at the plate.

I didn’t say a word about the Cardinals. Sheesh! Bryce Harper played for the Nationals, not the Cardinals. They both wear red caps so maybe that’s where the confusion lies. My point was/is that sometimes losing a “supposed superstar,” who is a cancer to a team, can actually do them some good. Bryce Harper, who now plays for the Philadelphia Phillies (also a reddish cap), packed up their gear after their 162nd game (that means they didn’t get to the postseason/playoffs). I hope I’ve explained well enough that my post had nothing to do with the St. Louis Cardinals (red caps with “StL” on it) and the Washington Nationals (from D.C. - not Washington, the state. Also red caps but with a cursive “W” on them). Also, second coming of Ken Griffey, Jr.? You gotta be kidding me. What did Ken ever do to you to make such a comparison? Oh, yeah! They both did win the HR derby at the ASG ... my bad. Any other similarities I’m missing?

What team would fire their GM and Manager after reaching the NLCS? The team was good enough to get there. At that point its mostly who is hot and who isn't. The Cards have been on both sides of that line. We just won 2 of 3 over the Nats less than a month ago. Unfortunately they got hot after that and we cooled off. The Nats are 18-3 since the Cards beat them on Sept 18. You have to give them some credit.

The idea that a very good baseball player was holding his team back but now they're good is silly.

Who would you compare Soto to? How many ML players have ever had a season like that in the outfield at age 20? Mantle? Griffey? Trout? The list of 20 year olds who hit .280/.400/.550 (even adjusting it down for historical context) is rather sparse. It's basically future Hall of Famers and Tony Conigliaro.

Not talking about his overrated talent. He is a good baseball player, but not worth his current contract by a long shot. Attitude is suspect and to what I was referring.

Watching this team all year, did any of us think we needed to upgrade the offense with a hitter or two at the deadline? Yes.

The Cubs, for one picked up a good hitter who helped them. The Cardinals did not.
The Cubs were ravaged by injury late and lost out to Milwaukee and STL. But they used all avenues to try to win. St Louis did not. And they haven’t for 4 years. It was obvious to me that there wasn’t enough hitting to compete with the top notch pitching staffs—-LA, Was, Houston, NYY.

This collapse vs Washington was historic.

Dude you know I was talking about THAT game at THAT time. They did hold the line after the 7 first inning runs, they just didn't hit, which was exactly what I said they had to do. They had their chance with bases loaded down 3 and didn't get it done, in THAT game.

The Cardinals won the season series against the Cubs and the Nats, apparently they were better than those two all season long. Seems like I remember the Birds having a few injuries back then.

The Nats were missing Corbin, but good try bro.
I didn’t list the Cubs as one of the top starting staffs. But good try bro.

They didn’t get it done in ANY of the games in the series. Did you watch?

Not in THAT series but they set a record for 1st inning runs in the playoffs against the Braves and against a pitcher who had them baffled in game 2 of that series. They beat Sherzer the last time they faced him. Where did those hitters go?
