Favorite Stadium

Lamar on game night is a pretty special place.

There is nothing special about Lamar's stadium. Now the football played there is excellent and there are pretty good crowds there.

If you are talking stadiums though the ones I enjoy most for facilities, location, scenery atmosphere, etc excluding WC I would rate them:

1. Branson ....great view of the valley below ....hate the drive though so have only been a couple times.
2. Junge Stadium - Joplin
3. Harrisonville

I would tend to agree that the Lamar stadium isn't necessarily one that evokes awe and wonder. As stadiums go, like many that were built in that time frame, it seems like the stands were designed for Japanese people instead of us, larger Americans. Add to that the stadium seats that people bring in to sit on and you could end up having a more intimate relationship with the person sitting in front of you than one might want. The atmosphere is usually pretty good, though. I will say that, compared to almost every other team we've ever played, we offer the most spacious and plentiful visitor seating that one could offer. Sure, you have to stare into the sun until it drops below the horizon, but that seems to be the case wherever you go. Bathrooms leave alot to be desired, for both sexes. It would be pretty hard to argue that the playing surface isn't one of the best in the state, though. That distinction has been earned with blood, sweat and tears, though. There is a special "something" that exists when a big game is happening and the stands are full and there are people crowded all around, though that really adds to the experience.

For a small school the atmosphere at a Lamar home games is not bad. Usually have a class or organization doing a tailgate and I enjoy the music before the games. The south end zone with a wall of speakers I can get home from work and hear the music from a mile away. Helps get you ready for game time.

If we are talking atmosphere that is entirely different than stadium. I listed Branson and Joplin as neat stadiums, though at least when I visited, neither had exceptional atmosphere. Atmosphere is more a function of the fans, activities, tradition. You can have great atmosphere in the worst stadium.

Webb City is a fun place to watch a game... that stadium is OK but nothing special (aside from seating a lot). It's fun because there are tons of fans. When they meet up with other nearby teams that also have a good following like CJ or Carthage, I think it's tough to beat that kind of game atmosphere in HS. I have never been to Lamar but I would assume from what others have said that it's similar. Any team that draws half the town on game night is bound to have great atmosphere. They show up to enjoy the team, not the stadium.

Panther72 it is owned by a gentleman named Jack Reece. He let us tour the property back in 2012 when we put together a like documentary about the 1951 Mineral Water Bowl to honor that team. He is letting the teams from Excelsior Springs that play in the West Central Youth Football League play their game at Roosevelt Field.
