Fast Track defeated in the House

Technology tends to lead to sedentary lives. People eat the Pyramid (which is/was stupid) and cheap. It's expensive to eat clean.

Diabetes is the major health issue facing our country from here forward.
Metabolic syndrome probably a better way to put it. Encompasses the other diseases too like hypertension.

americans are actually doing a little better at eating. It's hard to believe, I know, but the average person is eating a little less from the center of the grocery store.

Without tech I would not be able to share my wisdom with you guys and the younger generation would not be able to do basic math or tell time!

There's the key (shopping around the edge).

It's so danged expensive though.

Don't use your phone or the internet for a month.

Since you can't, does that make your parents crappy?

Nice work.

I was referring to the overweight/out of shape children you were complaining about previously. But once again you miss the point. Not shocked though.

I'm on the net less now than ever. Also not taking #selfies right bobby? Actually at work now. How are those zzzzzzzz's you're catching?

Maybe not using technology would help a person lose weight?
What zzzz's? Don't ASSume things kenny. You're usually wrong.

Maybe you din't see the vote count. There something like 180 republicans that voted against it. The only reason they're saying democrats betrayed him is because with all of their votes it would have passed even with that many republicans voting against it.

Once again.....
158 REPUBLICANS voted to support the President because they liked the legislation. If they HATED him, as has been said, they would have certainly voted against it since it was failing! There were more Republicans voting with the President than Democrats. Must be 140 Democrats who HATE Obama.

Ds killed that bill.

But, the Rs could also pass the bill on their own; their failure to do so to date is a sign that either the leader doesn't want to do so, or, more likely, they don't have the votes.

Trade is one of the issues where the divides are not fully along partisan lines.

I would bet many of the D's have some union folks in their district bending their ear on issues such as this. They don't have to hate anybody to vote against this kind of thing.

adults who've never played nintendo are a lot fatter than the generation before them.

Video games are a symptom of the issues, not the real issue.

Real issue is people eat horribly (way too many calories) and lead incredibly sedentary lives, including how they work. It's a lot easier to stay thin when you're on your feet all day.

That's the real way computers are affecting lives - sitting at one all day is horrible for your weight management.

Severe obesity shortens your life as much as smoking (~10 years). Being obese has some impact (~3 years). Being moderately overweight doesn't seem to really be a problem. Main cause of the shortening of life associated with severe obesity is cardiovascular (heart attacks and strokes).
Do you have to micro-analyze every post made on this site?

The Rs that oppose this oppose the change in the Executive branch control as do I.

Once again, the point is that Rs are SUPPORTING Obama when it has been said repeatedly the oppose him because they hate him and wouldn't vote for ANYTHING he wants.

The R's are supporting fast track, it just happens to be that Obama supports that too. Your issue with is not even relavent. This deal is NOT create some new power for the executive branch. Many presidents have had the power to negotiate trade agreements, THEN congress gets to vote on it. It's NOT giving him sole authority to make a trade agreement on his own.

Not sure anything can.
Which is my point. We might as well reap the benefits of free trade since there's nothing we can do to stop jobs for leaving for countries with cheap labor. Otherwise we get nothing out of it.

We need to reimagine what middle class jobs look like in the U.S. They aren't going to be assembly line manufacturing type jobs.

Who is the "we" you say are reaping those benefits?

Like I said previously, the American consumer who shops at Walmart and gets stuff for cheap.

So are prices gonna rise because Walmart is raising their pay? To just say jobs aren't coming back is not good enough. We better find a way or the middle class you envision will be just above the poverty line.

Walmart raising the pay of their employees has nothing to do with the prices they pay for goods. There is a way for the middle class to be strong again, but it's not with manufacturing and heavy labor jobs. I think a lot of politicians see this if they won't admit it. That's the reason free or heavily subsidized higher education is popular on both sides of the aisle these days.

It affects their bottom line just like any other expenditure would.

Not nearly as much as suppliers raising prices on them because they now have to pay 4x the labor cost. Prices for goods are actually pretty stable when wages increase.
