Saw someone calling me out about rankings (considering I usually post about mid July). Been a little busy but here is an early stab at them. Everyone's thoughts??

Also let me add this season is really tough in most of the classes. Outside of C4 and the top part of most of the others not many teams have a lot coming back as far as experience goes.

CLASS 4
1.Webb City
2.Affton
3.Harrisonville
4.Helias
5.Hannibal
6.Platte Co
7.Carl Junction
8.West Plains
9.St Charles West
10.Raytown South

CLASS 3
1.Oak Grove
2.John Burroughs
3.Maryville
4.Park Hills Central
5.Blair Oaks
6.Hogan Prep
7.Monett
8.California
9.Mountain Grove
10.Odessa

CLASS 2
1.Lamar
2.East Buchanan
3.Brookfield
4.Malden
5.Palmyra
6.Brentwood
7.Higginsville
8.Liberty (MV)
9.South Callaway
10.Lutheran North

CLASS 1
1.Valle
2.Skyline
3.Westran
4.Marionville
5.Marceline
6.Plattsburg
7.Lockwood
8.West Platte
9.Hamilton
10.Wellington Napolean

Kearney may have graduated some key players from last year but in my opinion they are just as formidable an opponent with what they have returning this year.

CLASS 3
1.Oak Grove
2.John Burroughs
3.Maryville
4.Park Hills Central
5.Blair Oaks
6.Hogan Prep
7.Monett
8.California
9.Mountain Grove
10.Odessa
You don't think Mountain Grove will suffer any set-backs because their coaching situation (or is Class 3 really just that thin)?

They graduated basically the entire offense and many key players on defense. Their offseason program is outstanding but muscle alone won't win titles.....................I confess to having about zero read on them going into this season so out of the top 10 is really not out of the question at least to start the season.

Bigger overall C4 question for realray................where's Cape Central?

Other classes.................C3 I like Maryville and very on board with East Buch in C2. If your rankings are spot on (you usually are pretty darned close) the bell game between Brookfield and Marceline should be another great one!

This biggest reason I didnt have Cape or Kearney in there is because of the large amount of question marks. Both have to replace a ton of talent and just didnt have much coming back. With that said I do have Kearney #11 and Cape #12 on my list of 20.

The biggest reason for MG being there is not me being a homer, its what other people are telling me. Honestly someone in the SCA will probably run the table this season. If not MG then probably Ava in that spot.

That maybe a bit high for Marceline but they do have a lot coming back. C1 was pretty tough outside the top 4.

I'd never assume any ranking or yours is subject to homer bias ;)

...I had just heard that MG's coaching situation (and how late into the off-season it happened) really put them behind the ball at least for this season (I have no doubt they'll get back on track quickly enough after that; it's Grove!).

...and I'm always big on Ava; love the way they play football down there (and that's coming from someone that has a child in the Rogersville Mighty Mites program :D).

As far as Class 4 I can't see Kearney not being in the top 5. I realize at times they were offensively challenged last year but their defense shut down teams until the offense put something together. I assume their big LB will be back. He will probably be as good as anyone in the state. Unless Kearney has some other problems I'm not aware of I would think they are again the favorites to at least advance as far as a quarterfinal match-up with Helias. CJ lost a few real good players but bring a bunch of players back and as I recall Harrisonville had quite a few underclassmen. I fully expect Helias to be solid again but besides Hentges it seems like they lost a lot of other players and aren't they going through a coaching change?

Yes, they lost Hentges, plus 2-3 additional really good linemen. One of the lineman walked on at Missouri from what I am hearing and made the team. They will be better in specialty positions, but replacing those lineman especially on the defensive side will be very hard. They are loaded at the backfield and wide receivers. Really good QB. They only lose Hentges at the tight end position, which is a position that is not even a part of the current offense. They are deep at running back and receivers.

Yes they have a new Coach. Tim Rulo who was at South Callaway and won a state title there. Very good coach, but brings brand new offense. It is not the wide open approach they have had in the past and will be interesting how he uses all the weapons they had last year that are returning.

They might struggle early on based on having almost an entire new coaching staff and learning this new system and what the players can do. Very tough schedule again.

Rulo finished 2nd, never won a title

what are your thoughts on platte county

They have one of my favorite stops for gas when headed up that way.....

Football-wise..... they have a lot at the skill positions this year. If they can put a good defense together, may even finish better than last year, but we'll see

Rulo is a great coach, but I saw Helias at the jamboree and they did not look good. I wish him success, but with their schedule, it could be a long year.. If they finish above .500 that will be a great year. They play a very tough schedule.

Their district isn't getting any easier either, with the usual suspect Hannibal, and then you've got Mexico on the rise who turned some heads last year with a 9-3 finish
