Back in the Big 8 glory years (mid to late 80s) this was a guarantee. 1988 was the league's top year but what a painful one for this Sooners fan vs. Danny and the Miracles who beat Rolando Blackman and K-State in a memorable regional final as well. Mizzou was highly seeded lost to then unknown Xavier (drum roll) first round.

Oops memory not as sharp as it used to be Mizzou lost to Rhode Island in 1988. Xavier must have been the year before.

McCollum is a master. He takes his D2 kids and he outcoaches the other coach and they out hustle and out execute their opponents. He is going to have some offers to go to bigger schools after this tournament. Indiana looked at him pretty seriously. Iowa has him on their radar. West Virginia and probably a few others after all the coaching changes happen. I hope he stays at Drake but in a world of NIL it will be hard for him to pass up the resources of bigger schools.
