Does Webb City have what it takes?

17-7 at the end of the 3rd quarter...the forced fumbles.. Kearney dominated the game for three quarters. The announcers for the game (one a WC grad) even commented on how the game could have easily been a blowout at that point. WC corrected in the 4Q..gobbled up yards. Had a fumble that wasn't called a fumble that would have ended the game. Then made one more fumble (not forced) that lost it for them. But they by no means would have deserved to win.
Yards per rush: Webb 3.4 Kearney 4.6 Time of possession: Kearney 25:26 Webb 22:23 And the only stats that really matter: Kearney 17 Webb 14. But controlling the line of scrimmage and eating clock, out rushing WC when they needed to...won the game.

Logan Hinck 8 of 12 for a 108.7 QB rating. Tyson Rod 14 of 26 (with a lot of easy fade passes to Newby.) QB rating 67.8 Another area that K dominated the game--the passing game.

And K didn't have their #1 receiver (D1 baseball player.)
Just so you don't think I'm an ogre, here is my take on why Webb has a great chance to win the whole thing:
1) Roderique.
2) Defense -- has to still be one of the best along with Kearney. Can keep you in things even when the O stumbles.
3) West Plains or Ladue lack of experience at the semi final level.
4) Even if Ladue has amazing, blazing, bad ass athletes, they will still be out footballed by Webb.

It is weeks away (but fast approaching now) but I ever so slightly favor Ladue. They have been to the semis and final the past two years so won't be "wowed" by Webb and/or Kearney et al. Frankly the hardest game they may face is West Plains if the Zizzers can control the ball/clock. Teams with top RBs have a tendency to do that especially when the weather becomes a factor.
Assuming things play out with top seeds holding serve WP would travel to Ladue and Ladue would have to play at WC for the semis if they beat the zizzers. Webb at home would be a tall order for most teams since they’ve only lost at home a handful of time in the past coupe decades. (Only @ 4 times since turn of the century if my memory is correct)

This week will tell a lot more when they visit Kirkwood. I know Kearney won at Webb in 2002-03-09 and Ozark did two years ago (that very rare down year). Scores can be very deceiving as two of K's wins were much closer than the final score indicated. Their two losses at Webb (1989 and 2014) and the 2003 win were the only ones between the two down there that really weren't in doubt from the start.
This thread has been interesting with all the different takes on history. The only problem I see is if Kearny and Webb do get to go head to head it won’t be played in the past and makes this entire thread moot. Sounds a lot like my great granddad could beat up yours, all speculation from your view point.
But still fun to remind webbtrolls of their losing record to Kearney, and their home losing record to K

Sounds like Kearney needs to win more when playoffs come around, because 9 times out of 10 Webb is at least in the semifinals and Kearney isn't. Webb cant smack them around if Kearney is at home getting ready for basketball!

Can you do a year to year comparison since 1985? I would just make sure you can copy and paste Webb City so it will save you some time. Good luck.
Its not all about Webb...this was about Kearney...and someone talking smack about their semi appearances.. They have been in 4 of the past 5 years. Let's compare games where Webb and Kearney have played each other?.
One would have to consider with anguished pause, the all consuming power of speed. That which is borne from what the scientists call, fast twitch muscles. Of which, the school know as Ladue, has in abundance. And considering that the race for the state championship is a short sprint, the upshot of this fact would lead one to conclude, it is not Webb's year. Ah, but even the GOP has had off years. One remembers the victory of the salacious womanizer, Bill Clinton. Even the best teams can lose now and then to a capable candidate.

Do you not read my posts? Did I not say that Ks offense is shaky and warned about Smithvilr’s senior heavy team? I’m not surprise they lost. Just like I won’t be surprised when Webb doesn’t make the finals again this year.

For Smithville THIS is that special year and they played like it. Now can they sustain it as a favorite in the playoffs? One thing I feel very certain about is the survivor of D8 goes to Columbia.
Definitely nobody in D7 to keep the D8 winner from semis and there the D3/D4 options look like a bunched pack of mediocrity so probably correct.

Yeah I don't like anyone in D7 (Smithville, K and PC all whipped both Grain Valley and Grandview) plus D3-D4 could be Hannibal-MICDS and love Hwy 92's chances there too. Now as to winning in Columbia that is a whole different story................
If Kearney gives them 35 yards in penalties on a final drive again. Kearney beats them in the district final.
