Division 1 Talent

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the Wichita State coach knows what she’s talking about. She’s been around for quite some time and turned around one D1 program to compete at a high level. I’ll go ahead and take her opinion on talent rather than some Joe Schmo in the bleachers who thinks he knows what talent is and how to recruit

1st it’s not hard to point out that Frank is a D1 talent when she is one of the best players in the entire nation. She’s a big time talent that anyone knows is going to a contender.

Next how can you say she isn’t a D1 talent when she has obviously already received D1 offers?

What college coaching experience (or any coaching for that matter) do you have that allows you to tell a girl she isn’t D1 material when she already has D1 offers? Once again I’m going to take the word of people who have that experience and obviously know what they are doing rather than an upset parent or fan who thinks they know the game

I decided to let this thread sit for awhile and revisit it at the appropriate time. Now seems like a good time. That player many posters were questioning never went to WSU, switched to SIUE but left before they began playing, switched to a small Springfield area school and played less than 13 minutes per game as a freshman before quitting altogether. It turns out that the "Joe Schmos" that have been watching girls basketball in Missouri for years and years and seen hundreds if not thousands of players come through just might have a better idea of what caliber of player they are watching than a random college coach who is not familiar with the area and has seen some game film and maybe a game or two in person.

I haven't seen Katie Scott mentioned here but she is doing really well at the D1 level.

Second, Drew Hansen or Alan Stein, I can't remember which, talks about people who scream at kids from the stands to follow their shot as people who don't know much about basketball. It's just something to scream so they seem like they know the game. He says that if you have put in the repetitions in shooting, you should feel as though every shot leaving your hand is going in, therefore, following your shot is a sign that you are not confident in your shooting ability. Maybe this young lady feels confident that every shot she shoots is going in. Now, if a teammate shoots and she stands out at the three point line with her hands on her hips upset they didn't kick it out to her for her shot, then I'd buy in to the lazy label.

I heard Larry Brown say the same thing.

This Schmo waits 3 years to make a brag post at the expense of a kid. For all he knows she had personal issues or was just tired of playing. Whatever the reason, this is an ugly look.

First off, the kid is doing just fine, just not hooping anymore. Secondly, the debate was about whether a player would succeed at the D-1 level. Several posters were skeptical, but one chose to basically say they were all morons and were wrong. The smug dismissal of others' opinions because they aren't college coaches, as if that makes one infallible, is why I chose to check this later. The point here is one should not deride the opinions of others simply because they do not hold a particular title. This is especially true when it comes to off-the-radar amateur sports like high school girls basketball. Unbiased people who have seen the high school athletes play the most, will most likely have the best idea of how good they actually are, regardless of whether they are a fan, coach, broadcaster, etc. He could have simply agreed to disagree, but instead chose to bash and belittle others for having opinions, so I have no problem with bringing it back up.

This debate was no different than when Blaine Gabbert came out of Mizzou. Most Tigers fans knew using a high pick on him would be a mistake because they had watched him play every week for years, yet the "experts" in the NFL were convinced he was worthy of a 1st round pick. Turns out the locals had the right read. Holding a particular title doesn't grant someone unquestionable wisdom and acting as if it does is stupid. A lot of people with prestigious titles have done really stupid things.

TLDR- Respect other people's opinions, they just might have an idea of what they're talking about.

If I'm not mistaken, she has been the player of the week in their conference several times. It would have been nice if MSU was able to get her to stay home.
She committed to Missouri State under the old staff. The new staff came in and stopped communicating with her. Seems like a mistake.

I didn't know the new staff didn't push to try to keep her. I'm guessing they would like a do-over on that one.
