Leads the team in hits and doubles along with 7 HRs. AND he actually runs hard when he hits the ball.so Greg Garcia can get some starts? Interesting.
I still think he has a lot to work on. His OBP is only like .293 and he's chasing a lot more pitches than he did last year. Seems like a couple of weeks of trying to get right in the minors is worth a shot here.Leads the team in hits and doubles along with 7 HRs. AND he actually runs hard when he hits the ball.
Looking at the saber stuff, he's increased his likelihood at swinging at a pitch outside the zone from 27% in 2016 to 39% in 2017. He's actually seeing more pitches in the zone and he makes contact much less often when he swings at pitches outside of the zone, so there's not a great reason for him to chase this much.I still think he has a lot to work on. I just really remember him impressing me last year with how patient and selective he was and this year he's been anything but. He'd get a good pitch and then hammer it somewhere with authority. I'm with you in that I think all of the talent is still there, but he just needs to adjust his approach.Looking at the saber stuff, he's increased his likelihood at swinging at a pitch outside the zone from 27% in 2016 to 39% in 2017. It does seem like he may benefit from being a little choosier, especially when you consider he has a pretty low K rate and a high contact rate for pitches he swings at in the zone.
Shady. Not a way to endear yourself to a player. One thing how the Cubs did with Bryant. But this just feels way different to me."It is worth noting that if Diaz spends more than a couple weeks in the minors, the team would gain an extra year of control before free agency. While a quick move is relatively harmless for Diaz’s future earnings now, it is likely something both player and team are playing close attention to over the next few weeks."
Totally agree with this. Numbers have been there all year to support him going outside the zone way too much, with no real reason to. What I struggle with...Why can't it be worked on at the ML level while still helping the team. He's obviously better than any combo of Mejia/Garcia/Dejong at 2B and SS. Two of those three have to play every game now. Goofy.Looking at the saber stuff, he's increased his likelihood at swinging at a pitch outside the zone from 27% in 2016 to 39% in 2017.
