Pass. I'd just as soon roll with Pham/Dyson.5 years for $70. I would say that Fowler will get a better deal than that and it won't be the Birds.
I would like to see that.Pass. I'd just as soon roll with Pham/Dyson.
How about a deal for Frazier and Eaton? 590 boys discussed it this morning. Wonder what that package would look like.
I wouldn't pay Desmond that to play 1B or OF. I'd pay him that to play 2B if I were running another team.5 years for $70. I would say that Fowler will get a better deal than that and it won't be the Birds.
Just saying Fowler is not going to play for a lesser deal than that.I wouldn't pay Desmond that to play 1B or OF. I'd pay him that to play 2B if I were running another team.
He really does not fit our roster well.
Oh, I agree. Fowler is pretty clearly a more valuable CF in 2017-2018 than Desmond is.Just saying Fowler is not going to play for a lesser deal than that.
Agree I am getting worried about how long it is taking. I'm not a patient man when it comes to somebody else's business. Let's start improving this team. If they want to really improve their defense then getting a CF won't be enough. As I remember it our infield defense was horrid. I don't think putting those same pieces on the field next year is the answer for a ground ball pitching staff. Heard a good rumor on radio. Lynn and Wong for Simmons of the Angels. Now the defense looks better.Oh, I agree.
The difference between Fowler and Desmond is that one of them can play a decent middle infield, and it's silly to pay that player to pay OF or 1B when he can add more value to you in the right spot. Look at the contracts for corner OF/1B who hit about as well as Desmond...they aren't getting 5 years and $70 M. This is why it is dumb.
I tried telling you this a week or so ago....Pass. I'd just as soon roll with Pham/Dyson.

Really, not a lot of movement so far outside of SP and RPAgree I am getting worried about how long it is taking. I'm not a patient man when it comes to somebody else's business. I've already lived the Jason Heyward experience onceYou can forget Eaton now. Looks like Washington got him
Eaton would have been the best player on the Cardinals.....by a large margin.I've already lived the Jason Heyward experience once
One year blip in defensive performance for Eaton. I would not bet on that being sustainable.Eaton would have been the best player on the Cardinals.....by a large margin.
He had a 6 WAR. Carp had a 3.2
Looks like the Birds are going to have to trade Martinez or Reyes if they hope to get an outfielder. About all that is left is Fowler because they won't get rid of either of those 2.Agree I am getting worried about how long it is taking. As players go off the board other than Fowler it looks like any move will be a surprise. Fowler does not make this team a lot better.I'm obviously not Keith Law, but looking at Fowler's performance and considering he has played his career in Colorado and Wrigley, I'm just not that excited about him.
He is a complimentary player. we need some stars in a hurry. Like Encarnacion.
We don't have one star.
You do realize Wrigley has been at the middle/bottom of Park Effects for the league , right? Wrigley isn't some hitters paradise.I'm obviously not Keith Law, but looking at Fowler's performance and considering he has played his career in Colorado and Wrigley, I'm just not that excited about him.

That blip goes along with a change in position. Corner OF, he can handle. CF....hot garbageOne year blip in defensive performance for Eaton. I would not bet on that being sustainable.
The Cards will not be trading Reyes or Martinez.Looks like the Birds are going to have to trade Martinez or Reyes if they hope to get an outfielder. About all that is left is Fowler because they won't get rid of either of those 2.
There are plenty of these trades that are horrible from this respect, although the pendulum has somewhat swung to where prospects may be overvalued due to how cheap they are.One thing that annoys me is that everyone assumes these prospects are all going to be all stars. a whole lot of them don't amount to squat or get hurt or get drunk and die in a crash. Getting a bonfide major leaguer for unknowns isn't usually bad.
Regarding Reyes. He needs to add a pitch. we thought wacha was gods gift in 2014.
We could have traded him for a great player. Reyes hasn't even been through the league once. is he really a star? I'm not against trading him now while he is valuable.
You could have said why didn't we trade Martinez and that has worked out fine. You can't only focus on the cases that don't work out.We said there is no way we would trade Wacha two years ago. Wish we had.
Agreed. But I sure wouldn't move Reyes for Eaton straight up, which is essentially what the Nats did. Except they tossed in another couple of goodies too.You could have said why didn't we trade Martinez and that has worked out fine. You can't only focus on the cases that don't work out.
I think the Cards may need to trade a younger guy to fix their defense/lineup, and I'm not opposed to doing the right thing if you get a fair price.
White Sox got some good young pitching in that deal. I can't believe that the Nats traded Giolito.Agreed. But I sure wouldn't move Reyes for Eaton straight up, which is essentially what the Nats did. Except they tossed in another couple of goodies too.
Awful trade. I almost have to think Dusty took control of the organization for a few hoursWhite Sox got some good young pitching in that deal. I can't believe that the Nats traded Giolito.

As it was rumored, I had hoped that the Royals would have traded Wade Davis to the Nats for Giolito and those other prospects. Soler from the Cubs was not enough IMO.I heard today that the Nats tried to alter his mechanics and screwed him up this year. but most people think he will be straightened out working with the white Sox pitching people.
LMAO...Awful trade. I almost have to think Dusty took control of the organization for a few hours
Truff. Nats got fleeced. ChiSox came out of this looking REALLY good. Only for Kenny Williams to somehow do something stupid to screw it all up.Awful trade. I almost have to think Dusty took control of the organization for a few hours
If Rick can have complete control, he has a functional brain. He had the balls to call out the entire organization for practicing and accepting mediocrity. Kenny is absolutely worthless , along with their owner.Truff. Nats got fleeced. ChiSox came out of this looking REALLY good. Only for Kenny Williams to somehow do something stupid to screw it all up.
Glad I was wrong about the Birds part. Cardinals just got better and that is what the winter is all about.5 years for $70. I would say that Fowler will get a better deal than that and it won't be the Birds.
It was actually a pretty fair deal. Cubs get 1 year of Davis at $10 million. Royals get Soler through 2020 at $4 million per. If he gets playing time, the guy has unlimited offensive potential. He also has to stay healthy, which will be the big hit on Davis as well.As it was rumored, I had hoped that the Royals would have traded Wade Davis to the Nats for Giolito and those other prospects. I understand that thinking but given the track record of Davis, an additional prospect from the Cubs would have been more than fair IMO.It was actually a pretty fair deal. You can't ignore the health part of his track record, either. His 2016 injury concerns probably cost you the chance to get more than Soler.I understand that thinking but given the track record of Davis, an additional prospect from the Cubs would have been more than fair IMO.
If the Cubs felt that his injury history was significant, they would not have made the trade. You can't ignore the health part of his track record, either. His 2016 injury concerns probably cost you the chance to get more than Soler.
I agree there is a limit to it, no question, but the trade says as much about their opinion of Soler as it does about Davis. It says they are choosing Schwarber/Heyward/Baez/Zobrist/Bryant/Rizzo/Russell over him. He had no starting position on this team for the next couple of years. If the Cubs felt that his injury history was significant, they would not have made the trade.
Your last statement more or less ties into my thinking on this trade. Most likely the Cubs had nowhere to go with Soler. If the Royals had not made this trade, the Cubs would have had to sit on him or most likely trade him for less than what they got.I agree there is a limit to it, no question, but the trade says as much about their opinion of Soler as it does about Davis. It feels like they decided Davis's 1 year contract + ability + health history made more sense than paying up to keep Chapman or to buy Jansen. It also makes you wonder what else they were offered for Soler.
