One of the ideas thrown out for College Football is the possibility of not playing until next Spring. Lets say that happens and MSHSAA likes the idea and follows... what would that mean for other sports, especially at small schools? Or, am I assuming wrong, that most that have the choice would choose to play football?

I would be hard pressed to see meesha going with that. The schools would have to agree. Heck they are thinking about letting seniors play in summer which to me does no good other than feel good. If we are lucky to be able to do anything this summer better get ready for fall season.

I can’t imagine that happening at the high school level. You already have track, baseball and golf going in the spring and I don’t see how/why mshsaa would lessen those sports in favor of football. The NCAA could do it as most of the athletes in the division 1 get their scholarship $$$ from football. Some do baseball or track but I would think it’s a small percentage.

Then do they play again in August for the following season?

In theory, yes... Which is another drawback
Really doubtful it could work, but not any crazier than some of the speculative plans out there... and gives us something to talk about.

Start the season at the regular date with the most minimal attendance and grow the attendance in stages at mid season then again at districts?

What happens if we cannot play sports at all this year, can MSHSAA financially survive thru the year, wonder what the future looks like, it will be in thier best interest to try and get things going I would think?
I want to see some normalcy also but you have to wonder, what will parents say if people are still getting sick come fall?
Will school boards want the worry about the responsibility that allowing sports brings since you will be traveling to other communities? I heard somebody say what happens if we go to another town and some kid unknowingly gets infected shows no symptoms and infects a child in school with underlying medical condition and that child dies that never left and only attended school. What is the schools liability? sorry not trying to be a Debbie downer but I know people are talking about it especially if they start doing contact tracing who is responsible for insuring the safety with close contact sports? People will want to know schools are doing everything to keep all kids safe, and putting children on a bus to play a sport in another town, will everybody in the community think that is wise? I mean we had no cases that I know of and we shut the schools down this year. Thoughts?

All good points. Makes you think that maybe kids with health issues need to be home or alternative schooled until there is a vaccine.

True, but if a school is meant to be a "Public free education" at this time should sports take a back seat during such uncertain times and the school district try their best to offer a safe haven for all? And again I am not talking about kids that know I am sure many parents will consider that when or if schools open, I am talking about underlying issues that nobody knows about, Covid -19 doesn't discriminate.

this virus according to the experts is going to be around for a couple years. put all sports aside for however long it takes, all the sports on earth isnt worth more than one life.

Not sure if this is really being considered or something someone made up and it found its way to the rumor mill. I find it hard to believe but I also found the idea of canceling half a school year hard to believe and here we are. I heard they were talking about having players tested before season, with parent permission. I find that part hard to believe. This part is possible but I still think unlikely. Bleachers would be sectioned off, one section for each player if space allows, rotating underclassmen if space is limited. Hosting team would have the option of doing the same for the visiting team. No visitor bleachers, no visitor fans. Separate accommodation restrooms, concessions, etc. to reduce risk of spreading to different community.

Just play but understand the risks. If a parent doesn’t want their kid playing because of the risk then don’t play. With regards to fans, you would just limit the attendance to stay within the social distancing guidelines.

social distancing while playing the game however is going to be hard.

Yes, can you believe the Yahoo's that think you can ingest cleaner. The prez even believed it when he said it the people followed along. Makes me think of the movie where they water crops with Gatorade.

I believe High School Football will be played when College and NFL get played. If its spring for NCAA/NFL it will be spring for high schools. They could move track and baseball to the summer.

That won't happen, I could bet on that. You can do that with college and pro because most just do that sport. High school shares everyone. Missouri will not move track or other spring sports to summer cause it will ruin aau, legion and whatever else that goes on. It would make sense to have baseball and softball in summer like Iowa does, but won't happen.

Yeah, all of your good players would play summer ball instead, where the actual scouting and recruiting happens.
