Darn shame about Urban Meyer....

Well. I think we need to get all the facts cause there always is 3 sides to a story.

Never the less he will not retain his job as coach of the Buckeyes (Schools reputation bigger than any one coach). If he knew and said nothing I am sure the NCAA will get involved and he could be expelled from coaching for awhile. NFL here I come. :)

Can someone clarify for me whether they are saying this violated their sexual misconduct policy or if it is a Title IX violation or both?
I'm totally in the dark on Title IX provisions and OSU's sexual misconduct policy, but how does what the Smith's did in their home come under the auspices of either?
Last I heard they were investigating what head coach's wife knew, supposedly she is a mandated reporter because she is an RN.
All of this stuff is over my head. Any help out there?

Urban has specific language in his contract that he must notify the university within days of learning of the possibility of abuse issues for any student or staff member.

I honestly can see the people at Ohio State huddled around like in the movie Chappaquiddick. With Meyer as an incredulous Ted Kennedy and Gene Smith there trying to throw out ways that they can get ahead of the situation. Maybe wait it out over the weekend, trying to keep Meyer's statement out of the press until they can figure the spin, only to have Meyer tell them that he's already given his statement to the news, and Smith blowing his lid at him. Other similarities: I don't believe that Meyer will have anything but minor penalties, maybe missing non-conference schedule on paid leave. Then back to business as usual in Columbus.

Is that the quote from Urban when he first heard of the abuse.
It was reported to police many times but they did nothing. Its not like it was swept under a rug. I would think there must be credibility problems or charges would have been brought.

Since when is it an employers responsibility to watch and report every employee 24/7/365

I believe teachers and coaches are required by law to report abuse. I know that is the law in MO. Plus, his wife is an RN. If she knew then she by law must report it.

If Ohio State University football coach Urban Meyer knew of allegations that a former assistant had committed domestic violence against his then-wife, the school’s written policies required him to report those allegations within five work days, said a Columbus education law attorney.

The questions OSU must try to answer now: Are the allegations against former OSU Assistant Coach Zach Smith true? And did Meyer — now on paid administrative leave from the university — know about the allegations?

“Here’s the bottom line: When an employee of the university is faced with or becomes aware of a situation that potentially fits within the Title 9 parameters, or within the university policy, they are far better off to err on the side of reporting the information,” said Chris Conard, an attorney with the Coolidge law firm.

so here is what their handbook says

‘The university community seeks to eliminate sexual misconduct through education and by encouraging everyone to report concerns or complaints — including third-parties when the accused is a member of the university community.”

I think my lawyer would argue that beating on your wife is not in any way "Sexual Misconduct" unless it actually happens during sex!

And secondly did Meyer actually witness domestic abuse himself, or did he have unverified 2nd or 3rd hand information

Getting into a lot of grey area here for sure. I just wonder how good of coach was Smith that he let this slide?

The contract Urban Meyer signed with Ohio State explicitly states that he is required to report all information he obtains about any of several types of incidents/crimes/potential crimes directly to the university. Failure to do so is cause for termination without a buyout of his remaining salary. His story now is that he DID report it to the university. He simply chose to lie about it every time he was asked about it publicly.
