I have always been hard line on illegal immigration, so I supported Trump's stand on immigration (just not the Wall across the entire border, only because of the unnecessary expense in some desolate areas). The number of dreamers is estimated at 700,000 while the estimate of total illegals is 14 million. The tide has slowed after the huge surge occurred when it became apparent that a crack down was coming, but the dreamers are only a small part of the illegals here.
Let's face it - we are not going to start rounding up 14 million illegals in the US and deport all of them.
I see the only solution is amnesty for those already here, like Reagan tried, but this time we slam the door shut!! Give illegals 6 months to fill out all the paperwork and documentation to become legal, reject the criminal element, and after the 6 month period anyone caught here illegally is jailed and automatically deported.

The current illegal immigration crisis is due to Reagan giving amnesty. It gave illegals a place to go (relatives, friends) once they made it to America. Giving a foothold to illegals always allows more in.

However in the name of compromise, I would be on board with making a path to citizenship for illegals currently in the country (make basic requirements, having a job, paying taxes, etc) and after 6 months completely crack down. Those actually interested in citizenship can get it, get rid of everyone else.

The mistake with Reagan's amnesty is we didn't close the door. Immigrants are always going to have relatives in their homeland, that shouldn't a reason to greenlight the entire family, such as, for instance, Melania's parents becoming US citizens this week. HA couldn't resist!!

To be honest, I wish Republicans would make more efforts to welcome Hispanics into the GOP's overall tent.

I know it's a generalization, but in general the Hispanic population is MUCH more conservative than they are liberal.
