Does Cooper Lucas intend to play in college and if so where? Scholarship/walk-on?

Also, how tall is he?

I'm not exactly sure of his intentions. I know he's had quite a few visits to camps, some D1, some not, outlifted all the linemen at one, I'm told, impressed them with his speed, etc., been told he's probably too small, yadda, yadda, yadda. I'm gonna ballpark him at about 5'11'' but I don't know the exact number. All of the above is second hand and an over use of commas.

LOL,
I tend to overuse commas, too

As Mits's profile pick shows, Mo State has had some success with "seemingly undersized" linebackers with huge motors and happen to come from sw missouri. I've been constantly let down by the lack of attention that MSU pays to local players. Getting them to look at Beshore seemed to take an act of God. That seemed to pay off for them, as well.

That reminds me! I need to update it to a Texans pic (I’m all mobile now, so I never see it :D)

How big was Cole?

To recruiters it's not about what the kid did in high school but what improvement potential the kid has. Stupid I know.

Well coached kids in smaller schpols sometimes has the stigma they have reached close to their peak.

Great work ethic is contagious and inspiring, but so can an entitled attitude. I would take great "under the tape" kid over a "could be better with some effort but won't do it day in day out" kid any day for the college programs in this area. Might make a big difference inplace of some of the Juco space wasters a good portion bring in each year. Could sell more tickets with more local kids too.

My Saturdays weren't free to watch any college ball this year but last year I twice saw a kid from Pitt be excused from a game for unsportsmanlike conduct. He then went by escort to the locker room gesturing and clowning for the crowd all the way there. I probably shouldn't have been shocked but I was. How hard did someone lobby to get THAT kid his starting position? E-gad.

The Lucas kid had an outstanding HS career, but there's more to getting college offers than that alone. His grades, test scores and disciplinary record have to be up to snuff (which they likely are). He appears to be shorter than 5'10" but is extraordinarily developed physically. Which, believe it or not, can be a red flag for colleges. The biggest reason he may not have offers is if colleges think he's reached his developmental ceiling or he just hasn't gotten the attention of colleges because he's in SWMO and not a more dense area like KC or STL. If Bailey isn't really active connecting w colleges directly or isn't interested in doing a lot of that legwork, it would explain the lack of offers also.

His best fit is probably NAIA or D2.

Cooper Lucas, that name just sounds like a bad @$$ football player.
I would like to say he will be missed, but not by any of the teams in the Big 8 who he ran thru around and over, I am sure many DC in the Big 8 will be resting just a little easier knowing he is graduating this year. He was a heck of a player for sure he played like a kid twice his size had a huge motor.

Does anyone know if the coaches at Lamar have relationships with college coaches? A program with 7 straight championships should have a lot of looks from colleges. Even though they're Class 2 and in a rural area. Also, I noticed he has HUDL highlights but no profile on Rivals or 247. If a coach hears his name, then checks online but doesn't see that either of the 2 have anything on him, it could be another reason he isn't getting more love.

Does Lamar put effort into helping their players get exposure? I'm really surprised that none of their players seem to have more of an online presence for recruiting.

Good Question...I know he helped his nephews out. Sam is at Mizzou and Ben is at Southern Illinois. Im not sure though how much he's out there helping the boys get connected with colleges. We do have several playing college ball, but college is a whole different ballgame. College is more like a job and we've seen a lot of boys quit after their first year.

College football isn't for every kid, even the ones talented enough to play at that level. Even kids with lots of offers really need their HS coach to be an advocate and to provide guidance thru the process. Finding the best school for the kid is key, and a kid with D1 talent at a school that isn't the best fit for him can suck the fun out of it. These are 17 and 18 yr olds, afterall.

In my humble opinion (which may not even be worth the spit necessary to say it), this is seemingly a common shortcoming of SWMO Football coaches (generally speaking).

KC and STL coaches appear to be more invested in the recruitment of their kids and thus they foster relationships with recruiters and work to get their kids exposure at camps and clinics, etc

I haven't been in Missouri long, but you appear to be correct. I've heard stories of HS coaches literally telling their players' parents that "it isn't their job to get kids recruited by colleges". Imagine if your kid's math teacher told you that they weren't interested in helping your kid find the best college math program for them.

I can tell you factually Lamar has had numerous kids, from the last 7 years, that went on to play college ball. Coach Bailey coached in college prior to Lamar so I'd guess he is in the know of how that works. I also know Mo St was said to be reluctant/slow/ recruiting the Beshore kid & I am guessing they are glad now. An athlete like Cooper can play at several colleges IF HE WANTS TO pursue that.

Funny you should say this. Had a parent tell me at a KC northland school the coach said that very thing. Then handed out a paper that had size and speed chart and said if you son does not have these measurables they are not college players. Saw the chart and almost laughed myself silly.
Just recall my high school coach telling every kid if you are interested in playing college ball we will help you anyway we can and will help you find the right fit NAIA, D2/D3. My high school coach even went on visits with kids to help even at the D3 level. Some coaches are actually invested in kids and some are not

Someone on the thread mentioned Bailey's nephews. One at MIZZOU and another at Carbondale, I think. I haven't found recruiting profiles for Lamar kids online or any listed in state rankings of top players. It takes exposure at certain camps and recruiting events to get noticed on those.

There are plenty of opportunities for kids to play at schools of every conceivable size and level. The key is getting the kid in front of the right coach and school for him. There's no shame in playing NAIA or even JUCO, if it's the best route for a kid. With 7 straight rings, I'd expect a school to have at least 4-5 Seniors in each graduating class end up on someone's college roster.

You raise a good point though, especially if you know the Lucas kid personally. Are you saying he doesn't want to play in college?

What math teacher has ever personally helped a kid directly with finding a college to attend? I am not disagreeing with the idea that a coach can help out, I just disagree with your example.

Both of my kids had help from their teachers in identifying the best colleges for their potential fields of study. In addition to letters of recommendation, they provided insight on courses my kids were interested in and even personally assisted in my kids finding internship opportunities with professionals they knew. They worked directly with the college counselors at my kids' schools throughout the process. Not every teacher goes to such lengths, obviously. Just like every coach doesn't. It isn't a universal example, but it was accurate for my family's experiences.

But you made it sound as if it were the norm for a math teacher to do it in the example that I disagree with.
