Confluence Prep forfeits 1st Round District game

Teams have forfeited during the middle of the season too. One year, Carthage won via forfeit against Kansas City Paseo Academy of Fine and Performing Arts and had to pick up a game against Oklahoma City Centennial instead.

What year was that Paseo game? Paseo was trying to restart their program for about 3 season's as a non MSHSAA playoff member. Then dropped the football program all together.

2006-2007. It was right as Carthage was leaving the (Old) Southwest Conference for the COC Large at the time. They always had difficulty scheduling OOC games because the program was just starting to get off the ground at the time and three of the four other teams (Webb City, Neosho, Anderson) in the SW Conference were also in their district. This was only a few years removed from home-and-away cycles against Chanute, Stockton, Hillcrest, etc. It messed up the computer rankings in 2006 because Carthage was favored by about 60 at home, but the game was scored 7-0.

According to Cardinal Ritter Twitter account Confluence Prep notified them they don't have enough players to play the first round district game.
What about all the other teams in the state of Mo this is trickling down on..... There are teams that were bumped to class 4 because this team decided to have football and couldn't finish the season. Not to mention District brackets wouldn't have been set up this way they are now. This completely trickled down on all class 3 and 4

That is a good point, these teams not finishing the season had they never started the season how many schools would that affected and changed their classification?

Why it was ever changed? It’s a way better format.

One of the problems with the old format was teams with identical records where one would “get in” and another wouldn’t. Subjectivity and fairness was frequently in question. The move to the current system was intended to give every team within a District the chance to settle it on the field. The only issue (that I’ve heard) is the forfeiting that’s happened more and more over the last several years.

The way the system is now is perfect they need to stop forfeiting games, it’s a joke. It teaches the kids it’s ok to give up in life

It's really not perfect. Every system has it's issues. 8-1 and 99% of 7-2 games are crap and need to expired. A perfect system has teams in there that earn their way in to the playoffs IMO.

Yeah that makes sense. I think the forfeiting is silly. Just play the game.

Just spit balling here, what if MSHSAA allowed 7-8 seeds to bow out of the tournament and play each other instead. This way the 1 and 2 seeds are rewarded with a bye week and the 7-8 teams have a shot at a competitive end to their season. Now keep in mind the schools do not necessarily have to bow out they could play the higher seeded teams.
While almost every district wouldn't offer must resistance to this. Check out C6 District 4. #2LSW just absolutely got its wheels played off by #7 Liberty North. LSW won 21-13, but LN had the ball in the redzone with opportunities at the end.

I’ve said this before; have the 7&8 seeds in every district play each other the first round, with no advancement for the winner (ie: District Consolation game), at the same time giving the 1&2 seeds a first round bye.

They’d never do that, though, because that guarantees the loss of one game’s worth of revenue per district for MSHSAA.
I like the double bye for 1 and 2, and single bye for 3 and 4, more than this. Still allows all teams "in", but rewards the regular season. 5 plays 8 and winner advances to play 4. 6 plays 7 and winner advances to play 3. Then 1 and 2 await the winners of each of those. Need to shorten the regular season a week, I think, but makes sense.

Because this is high school football
But, you're trying to find a champion...correct? If not, then by all means do it however. But if the goal is to find a champion, this kinda makes sense. When the only argument against, is two weeks off...because those two teams are the top seed.

Two weeks off will simply never fly with anyone (realistically speaking).
I know, makes way too much sense to solve the "problem". I'm not sure which is the best really. I like the brackets they way they are. But then again, I coached a sport where brackets were normal. I also don't get all bent out of shape about the blowouts or forfeits. Just kinda seem to be the nature of the beast.

Any weeks off by anyone is stupid. 4 team districts. 10 regular season games. District champs move on. Seems like that worked pretty damn good. Some teams finished the season with a win and knew they didnt deserve to move on but still got to go home happy. But hell lets keep pounding people into submission. The tough guy tournament.

Thats literally dumber than the Doc guys responses. What is wrong with 16 district champs facing off in a tournament? Absolutely nothing . All 64 teams had a chance to win their district. 16 did. Participation medals? That makes no friggin sense.

I don't think you are following...the teams that get to "win" on the last week is what I'm commenting on.
