A lot of really interesting games for week 1. Still a lot of unknowns for many teams. I am interested to see how the Bolivar/Republic game turns out.

Neosho
Willard
Bolivar
Carthage
WC

The first few weeks contain a lot of key games that are really going to set the stage for the COC. A lot of difficult predictions, especially without any previous games to judge how a team might be performing.

Branson. Neosho has been good the last couple years but they are in transition again, and lost several key players. Branson also has a new coach, but has a lot players returning from their improving team last year. This game is a tossup in my mind but on paper it seems that Branson has a good chance to take this home game.

Willard. Another tough pick. I would not be surprised to see Willard do very well this season, though I would also not be surprised to see them continue to lose a lot of close games. From what I've heard, Nixa lost a ton of experience, so I'll give the edge to Willard, even though they are unproven.

Bolivar. Should be an interesting game and a complete guess. I don't know much about Bolivar's position but Republic has been struggling. I think Republic will look better over the coming years but maybe not right out of the gate.

Carthage. Again, tough pick. Ozark was the only COC team to beat Carthage last year. I think Ozark will be better than last year, but I think Carthage may be better as well. I'll give a slight edge to Carthage avenging last year due to home field advantage at their new place with what will probably be a huge crowd. I think it will be a good game, maybe the best week 1 game in this corner of the state.

Webb City. This was a very tough pick for me last year but I believe WC is the clear favorite this year. It will be a fun game because of the rivalry, but I would be shocked if it's a nailbiter.

Don't know really, have done it since we lost in 07, guess it's my tic...

Willard and Carthage losses are really surprising to me. Carthage looked good at their Jamboree. I saw most of the #1 O against CJ's D and they moved the ball well. So either Ozark is really strong or Carthage suffered a let down. Looking forward to a good game Friday night, should be SWMO game of the week.
Webb 28 Carthage 21 in a tight one.

Those were the two that surprised me as well.

I think Ozark is good, if not very good, but the big difference was the unexpected turnovers by Carthage. Ozark got 14pts directly off TOs, and a third was nearing the goal line, and presumably erased a Carthage TD. Take out the turnovers and Carthage would have been up by two scores and running out the clock on their last possession instead of trying to score 14 points. I almost wonder if they were playing a little over confident or maybe just first week nerves? If they get over that, I think they will make friday very interesting.

I don't know what happened with Willard but that was a surprise to me as well. But like we've all discussed here, they are a team that has struggled to construct wins even with talent on the field.
