COC Pick Em 2022 - Week 1

Pretty confident in all these picks but Nixa/WC. If this was week 9 or beyond, I'd pick Webb City easy over Nixa. But as everyone knows, WC is most vulnerable at the start of the season, as their reloaded players struggle to lock in the speed of their split-back veer offense.

Imo the CJ vs Ozark , Webb vs Nixa and Willard vs Neosho games are toss ups for sure

Carthage over Republic--If Gall is healthy, they might go undefeated. The trick is going to be in how to limit his touches/tackles so he doesn't get beat up the next 14 weeks. Republic is going to miss their QB way more than people realize, and they may not be very good up front. Don't want to predict a final because Carthage may take their foot off the gas, but this is a big mismatch.

Ozark over CJ--I don't see how CJ scores. It sounds like Ozark is playing about 14 guys total, so early in the season they should be pretty tough. This will be something like 28-7.

Webb over Nixa--How will Nixa keep all of their guys happy? That offense looked anemic against good opponents at times last year and they survived off trick plays, drawing people offside. If Nixa hits a couple of trick plays they win. The "early season" issues of Webb have been a bit overblown, Joplin is just a tough matchup for them. Webb wins 28-17.

Willard over Neosho--Should be really high-scoring. Both coaches in year 2. Whoever wins feels validated in their program, whoever loses enters immediate questions/despair. Roweton/Bushnell are very similar to Hughes/Siler, but Willard should be better up front. I don't think either team can stop anyone this year, except maybe CJ/Branson, everyone is scoring 40 on these 2 teams.

Joplin over Branson--Branson may secretly be an 0-9 or 1-8 type team. Joplin gets a tune up game or two to figure out the offense without Wright, but I really like those backs they have.

I may be putting too much faith in the Springfield area, as the schools out West care more about football, but I just feel Willard and Ozark are quite a bit better than Neosho and CJ.

This is by far the most that have ever participated in this game! 43 so far, the next closest I believe was 38 the first year but it dwindled somewhat as the season went on. Typically it's been more like 25.

Below are the results from the first week of COC action. To me the surprise of the night was Carl Junction over Ozark in convincing fashion. So I'm interested to see how their season unfolds.

Nixa so far has lived up to the hype. Webb has some work to do but no doubt they'll be one of if not the last team standing come post season. Joplin looked good. Carthage looked good. Republic had some very good athletes but team wise they weren't what I was expecting. Looks like Neosho and Willard are going to be lighting up their opponents side of the scoreboard this season.
