I’ll go ahead and get the COC Pick Em going for anyone interested! The rules are the same as before….

Each correctly picked game is worth 1 point, however some games may be worth more.
  • Road wins are worth extra half point
  • If 45% or less pick the winner it’s considered an upset and the game is worth an extra half point
  • If 25% or less pick the winner it’s considered a major upset and is worth a full extra point

So the maximum potential value of a game is 2.5pts.

Selections must be made prior to the start of each game. Posts with edits or changes made after the start of the game will be disqualified.

It will help me if you list the games/winners for the week in the same order that I do since that is the order of the columns on my spreadsheet.

I will try to post updates on Mondays but sometimes it may be later in the week.

And here are my picks:

Branson at Nixa: I don’t know if Nixa will deliver like some are expecting but I do think they’ll open strong at home.

CJ at Willard: Willard has been an odd team to predict but CJ may have one of the least experienced and thin rosters in the conference.

Carthage at Ozark: Ozark handed Carthage a pair of unexpected opening season losses recently but Carthage has quite of bit of experience on the field so I think they’ll prevail even if it starts rocky.

Joplin at Webb City: I’m going out on a limb here banking that Joplin will out-offense Webb and maybe capitalize on some turnovers in a similar situation to what we saw a few years ago when Webb lost at Carl Junction. But has anyone in the modern era hung 3 in a row on Webb City?

Neosho at Republic: I believe both will have first year coaches? Tossup I guess, maybe go with home team?

Branson at Nixa: Nixa...Big...But I think you could be right. Not sure they're going to roll like they did last season.

CJ at Willard: CJ...Toughest call of the week. Going to give the nod in experience on the sidelines to Buck.

Carthage at Ozark: Carthage. Too much speed and athleticism on the field for Ozark.

Joplin at Webb City: Webb. I need to see Joplin's defense stop someone first.

Neosho at Republic: Republic. I think they were closer than some thought last year. Big change in offensive philosophy, but I think they could sneak up on some this year.

Nixa-By as much as they want to win by. I don't know if they can beat the other top guys, but they are going to pound the middle tier/bottom tier of the league.

Willard-This game is actually at CJ, and should be close. I don't see how CJ scores much this year.

Carthage-When the RB is fresh (as he will be early in season), this is a good offense and defense. Just don't know how he holds up all year.

Webb City-They are going to pound Joplin. I think they mentally treat this as a playoff game.

Republic-I have zero faith Republic's changes are going to be good this year, but Neosho is the worst team in the league.

Man, I need this CJ game to hit!
It's totally realistic. Willard has been one of the least consistent teams in the COC so you never know what you'll get from them. Especially on the road. It will probably be a case of coaching with limited talent vs talent with new coaching.

I cashed in on Joplin beating Webb last year. Hoping it will happen again but not likely!

Is Willard's talent level good? IIRC, last year they had a real issue at QB and were pretty much bi-polar on offense. Like they'd be wishbone one set and empty the next. And they didn't execute very well at either. But truthfully, I don't know enough football to know if it was an execution thing or a talent thing.

No idea to be honest, just seems like that program typically has a lot of decent athletes on the field but for whatever reason struggles to get them all on the same page. That's my perception, might be way off base.

I could be too. But I agree, there never seems to be a shortage of athletes there.

Of course its a struggle to get everyone on the same page! Have you tried the funnel cakes in Willard!? You try getting athletes on the same page with those being served at every home game!

I'm pretty much going to be smashing the reload button on Twitter from about 8-9 tonight checking that CJ/Willard score. I need to spend at least one week atop the standings.
