Not going to happen. Shot down by vote of the superintendents.
No open dates.

61% of the Waynesville student population is military-dependent, and this is coming from their school website. Another 12% have parents that at least work on base in civilian positions. The athletic talent pool I'm sure depends heavily on military migration. The state title in 2007 occurred in the middle of the war years. Whether that played into any of it, who knows, but the talent doesn't seem to be coming as it did then. With that lack of guaranteed athletes that will stay for 4 or more years, it could be hard to build anything, and especially in a tough conference. Even with their size, they may be a better fit in the Ozark Mountain, rather than the COC.
It is basically impossible to add anyone to the OMC that isn't in the Springfield metro due to travel issues.

I'm just not sure I understand their reasoning on that. Some of them traveled good distances for non-conference games this prior season. Carl Junction and West Plains I'm sure could both be deemed travel issues for the other members if that is the excuse. For most in that league, Waynesville would be either a guaranteed win or a guaranteed competitive game most years, plus it would fill in one spot on their calendar. But, it's hard to tell if that league will be around for the long haul as nit-picky as they have been so far.

Carthage freshman and JV football plays CJ instead of Waynesville the week that varsity plays Waynesville. Waynesville might not have a consistent enough student population to complete in the COC.
They're one of the larger schools in conference. It's not the number of students, it's the number of athletes.

I think CJ or WP would block anyone too far on the other side of Springfield. The only addition I could see is if Willard gives up on the COC

The Majority of teams voted for open dates. However, in the COC any vote takes a 2/3 majority to change bylaws. It was one vote from passing. Crazy thing is the Admin from one of the schools that brought this up, voted against it! NIXA. Word on the street is Perry is pissed. Joplin and Carthage also didn't want open dates

You would probably like that. Webb wanted open dates. So Webb wanted what Perry wanted.
Until Webb can put up a winning record against teams in the conference I don’t see any point of scheduling others???

Last 5 years they are 30-15 against the COC so not really steamrolling the competition

That doesn't mean they would HAVE to schedule up. Hell, they could even schedule some of the COC east teams that they are not scheduled to play. Looking at it, Webb probably had the hardest COC schedule last year. I really think not allowing out of conference games hurts the weaker teams the most. Think about trying to build a good program in Willard, Ozark, or Waynesville. Hard to get kids out when you go 2-8. If they had the ability to schedule a couple winnable games then 4-6 seems a lot better. It hurts no one and helps a most.

Webb probably wanted to schedule Eldo, Seneca, and Sarcoxie.
Webb saw enough of Seneca at the jamboree:)

why even have a conference then ???

You must not understand how this new conference works. Its okay, many don't it is new. It is Basically two totally separate conferences in most sports. With an agreement on Crossover games.
East schools are( Glendale, Kickapoo, Lebanon, Nixa, Ozark Waynesville)
West are ( Carthage, Joplin, Neosho, Republic, Webb City, Willard).
Every team would still play every team in their conference (COC East) or (COC West). Only thing that would change is the number of required crossover games. Crossover games are determined by the previous two years conference winning percentage. So taking your Webb for example. Their crossovers this year were Lebanon, Nixa, Kickapoo, Ozark. they did not play Glendale and Waynesville. So under the proposed change Webb would only have had to play Lebanon and Nixa. For the other 2 games they would be free to schedule whoever they want to. They could still chose to schedule Ozark and Kickapoo or ever Glendale, Waynesville if both teams agree. The Crossover games mean NOTHING when it comes to Conference standings. They only do Crossovers to make scheduling easier on the athletic directors.

Totally agree now they have a East Champion and a West Champion. Kinda watered down.

Aren't there 12 football-participating teams in that conference? I'm not sure how you could not split the conference with a 9 game regular season.

They should have just added Kickapoo and Glendale and moved on.

I'm just not a fan of conferences in general. I know ADs love them for scheduling purposes, though, so I'm sure they'll always be around.
