Coaches Opening

steelville fired their coaches. That place has turned into a real cess-pool and fast. One family has a strangle hold on that district....they own everything and everyone. Do better Steelville.

Mo Teaching site lists Seymour as being open, but then when you open it is says Baseball coach. So not sure

It is harder to hire a coach if they don't see talent in the pipeline. CJ hired a better boys coach this time than girls coach because the boys have more talent in the pipeline now.
CJ hired a coach who has developed a pipeline. He ran the Webb youth leagues, then started and ran them in Seneca. He is a good coach, but his program development should improve the incoming talent too. Having a group of good kids when you walk in the door will definitely attract coaches to any school, and some guys just want to coach what's in front of them, but it's nice to see some public school coaches who want to develop talent too.

How are we quantifying better vs worse higher?

Osage hired David Volkart, former Russellville head coach current Osage middle school assistant

Versailles hired Andy Moon, former Stover assistant. Alumni of Versailles

Macks Creek open. I think Ron retired or just wanted to enjoy daughter's senior year.

I know Marshfield had a loaded senior class. What are they going to be like moving forward? Assuming pretty solid if Marsh wanted the job

They have Aldridge, who will be a junior, and Ward, who will be a sophomore. If they have 3-5 other girls who are just average, they will be very good.

Boys coach has a really good daughter. But he’s certifiably insane. One of the reasons the old coach left.

Sounds like a lot of small towns. Bad administration or a bad school board not standing up to parents for their teachers and coaches. Leeton, Richland, and Steelville come to my mind at the moment, but there are a lot more out there. They have hidden agendas and the kids are the ones that suffer.

Is that what happened at Steelville?
That and the boys underachieved. They should’ve supported the previous boys coach better. Most of the time the grass is not greener on the other side. Parents are becoming a huge problem in HS sports, especially if they are in administration or on the school board. If their son or daughter isn’t playing enough or “getting coached too hard” they want another coach.

Parents are becoming a problem??? Parents have been a problem for at least 40 years. This is nothing new. The small town politics have been a problem for at least 40 years too. It comes with the territory and of course some places are worse than others.

Scenario. A good team - not great - wins districts. The week of the quarterfinal game the 5 seniors tell the coach they didn't expect to make it to state, so a few months back they booked a trip for spring break - which just happens to be the week of the final 4. They play well and get the quarterfinal win on Friday night, and after the game tell the coach they decided they are still going on the trip (leaving Saturday and coming back Wednesday night). The coach is shocked. Reminds them per team rules, if they miss the week of practices before the state games, they won't get to start at state (of the 5, 3 are starters, 1 is first off the bench and the other doesn't play much). Basically, they say it was booked and they didn't think they would get to state, and it is special thing for them to go on this trip.

They go. The team practices with the other 6 kids all week. At state they don't start - only sitting the first 3 minutes of the game before being subbed in (per what the team had done when anyone missed during the year for any reason). They weren't going to win anyway, but the parents of these kids feel the coach disrespected the kids because they were seniors and deserved the right to start regardless of missing the week of practice to go on the spring break getaway - they had put their time in over the years. The AD supports the decision, so they go to the principal who is not an athletic person at all.

What do you think should happen? What do you think did happen? This is why coaches don't want to coach.

Which team did this happen to. I think the coach would have been in the right not to play them at all, to me the players got off easy.
