Anyone done a breakdown of classes with changes next year and how they would look this year? Isn't next year 64 in class 1 and 53 in classes 2-6? I know can't do the success factor but curious who all moves up to 6, 5 etc.

I have a feeling people will be shocked when privates move down a class and some of the bigger 3 and 4 teams get bumped up. I think there are a lot of privates who don't have success and are playing up a class, and will end up "skewing" things.

Yep without the multiplier next year you may hear a lot of people crying

Hard to tell unless you are real bored and want to do a lot of math

Jomjam - you are absolutely correct. Getting rid of the private school multiplier will be a major problem for public schools. Yes, some private schools will move up probably to the class they are already in - but now most private schools will move down a class. Not sure why the public schools voted this in.

Between the multiplier going away and the evening out of the classes, its going to make a real difference. Most folks near the line should be ready to be up a class next year... Just one or two schools could make a real change in how the district alignment will shake out too.

Will they're be even 6 Classes next year? If 4 teams or more drop 11-Man next year will they keep 6 classes or combined 5 and 6.

And How does this new thing without
Multiplier works

I will try start on breakdown the classes next year

I have a feeling people will be shocked when privates move down a class and some of the bigger 3 and 4 teams get bumped up. I think there are a lot of privates who don't have success and are playing up a class, and will end up "skewing" things.

There’s a success multiplier. Privates who win will move up. Others will stay

Between the multiplier going away and the evening out of the classes, its going to make a real difference. Most folks near the line should be ready to be up a class next year... Just one or two schools could make a real change in how the district alignment will shake out too.

I get that there is a success multiplier, and while it will effect a few like LN, however there are a lot of privates that with a multiplier may be playing up a class, so when they drop down, everything else will move up. The private success as a whole is not as great as we all think.

EVERY private school will initially drop because the current 1.35 multiplier will disappear. Gendered private schools will still have their 1.35, but will no longer get a DOUBLE multiplier. MSHSAA is waiting until after the postseason to even determine how much success over the last 6 years will trigger classification bumps. So, my expectation is that the ceiling will be set by schools like Rockbridge and CBC. Lutheran North hasn’t won State, but will have tons of multiplier points for advancing deep into the playoffs. Then MSHSAA will work backwards from the high numbers to hand out who jumps up one or two classes.

Blue Springs will be the largest. Rockhurst and SLUH will stay in C6. Gendered private schools have never had the DOUBLE multiplier and will not have the 1.35 multiplier.

Blue Springs will be the largest. Rockhurst and SLUH will stay in C6. Gendered private schools have never had the DOUBLE multiplier and will not have the 1.35 multiplier.

You’re saying that gendered private schools DON’T currently get hit with TWO 1.35x multipliers? One for being private and a second for being single-sex? I believe you’re incorrect that they won’t retain their 1.35x multiplier for being gendered.

Under the old (current) system, single-gender schools were first hit with having their enrollment doubled, then had the 1.35x multiplier applied. (At least if my aging memory serves correctly ...)

What class will a school like Valle Catholic end up in? They only have 104 students.

There’s a success multiplier
Yes, I think we all understand that. But what some people don't seem to understand is that there are a whole lot of private schools that dont even win districts. Those will be going by their actual enrollment now. (Unless they only have one gender attending). That will cause a lot to drop a class or at least fall behind some public schools in numbers and perhaps push them over the number to move up.

Class Breakdowns according to MSHSAA in 19-20

Football 11-man 1-195 (64) 196-342 (64) 343-563 (64) 564-1021 (64) 1022-1311 (36) 1312-2055 (32)

Isn't rockbridge public?

I don't think this is accurate. For example, kirksville is in class 4 and their enrollment is 560, which would be class 3 according to the breakdown above.

Misunderstood gendered as not being the same as single-gender.

That is based on 2018-2019, they haven't released the 2019-2020 enrollments yet

I think the biggest issue is the disparity of smallest to largest in each class. The biggest two classes have the smallest ratio, with ratio of smallest to largest probably having the least impact when schools are that large.

Class 6 1.566 ratio
Class 5 1.282
Class 4 1.810
Class 3 1.641
Class 2 1.744
Ive heard class 6 has really lobbied hard to stay at only 32 schools.
If they keep 6 at 32 that would take 17 of the biggest schools out of each class and move them up. Obviously this could change with schools going 8 man, or any additions of schools starting football.
You would think with 8 man growth class 5 and 6 could combine and we would have 64 in each class.

This is correct. One potential example would be Helias. Unless they go deep in the playoffs this year and possibly even if they do they will likely drop to class 3 next year. I'm skeptical that the new guidelines are going to result in many changes except bumping a few class 2 and 3 "public" schools up a class.

So, these changes could possibly be happening next year?

Next year will have the most change in my memory. Too many unknown factors to project anything at this point:

Who's going 8-man? (seems like there will be quite a few)

What does the private school success factor look like? Who moves up? Who moves down? (Yes, there will be quite a few actually move down)

Will there be more than 32 teams in the catch-all class? If not, will the 6 class system remain?

Which class is the catch-all? (I believe it's still Class 5, but there's talk of it being Class 1 in the future)

I like the idea of keeping 6 classes, fill starting at the top 48 class 6, next 48 class 5, next 48 class 4, next 64 class 3, next 64 class 2, catch all class 1 (this year would have had 52 class 1 using this scenario)

You are always going to have some disparity in enrollment size within each class. This plan would make class 6 the broadest range and move the top portion of 3-5 up a level.
  • this would eliminate the 8 man coming and going effect each year as well
,but what do I know. I also want an expanded NCAA FBS playoff system to have 16 teams with 2 rounds of byes for #1-4 and 1 round bye for #5-8, and #9-12 hosting #13-16 for the rights to move on. round 2 and on would be at "Bowl sites" You could also expand this to 32 teams and could still done in 7-8 weeks start to finish which puts it done in January possibly schedule it the championship the Monday after the AFC-NFC championship games and before the Super Bowl.

Rockhurst (all boys), St. Teresa's Academy (KC, all girls), Visitation Academy (StL) are three that pop into my aging mind fairly quickly.
CBC, DeSmet, Priory. There are several all girls as well.
