Class 1 Football

Marionville (class1) VS Strafford (class2) could be good after the beat down Thayer put on Strafford last week. (Mville and Thayer are in same district). Thayer/Liberty could be pretty interesting as well.

I think the Pierce City/Jasper game will be a good game.

Class 1 #2 Marceline plays at Class 2 #4 Brookfield in the Bell game also. Huge rivalry game that is almost always a good one. Completely forgot about it.

Marionville looks legit
Skyline rolls on
Lockwood impresses
Thayer falls to tough Liberty but may be the best of the bunch

Ash Grove beating ElDo really surprised me to be honest.

Marionville vs Skyline in Week 8 should tell us a lot about SWMO Class 1

I wish Lockwood had some competition this year so we could get a read on them.

Lockwood needs to play someone that would push them to improve. Their sched breeds contentment.

So they'll have a "miller-ish" season by beating up on milquetoast only to get destroyed by a good team and you're calling THEM out for it?

They can't help it that the SRVC is down again and that Rich Hill is....I'm not sure what happened there but they lost to AC by 30.

The battle to see who comes in second place to Valle Catholic, a yearly tradition in Class 1 for the past 30 years. They must really grow those kids strong in Valle Catholic, MO to constantly stay at the top, right? Something in the water in that little town. What's amazing is that it never grows either. They never in any danger of moving up a class or two.

Commence yearly Valle recruiting talk.

They don't need to recruit. They are in a county with 2 high schools. If the better football players choose to go there they get great coaching and compete against schools with half the talent pool available (at best). Also, according to their own webpage last time I checked they had another county listed as attending. I

it'll never change because the bigger schools don't want any part of moving the smaller private schools up.

Westran is in the same county as Mobery. St. Vincent is in perry county and hasn't had the success as Valle. You are correct about the talent pool but they still have to play football. Valle isn't a thought in basketball except for last year which was the best a basketball team has ever done at there.

St Vincent had a couple real good years back in the mid to late 90's didn't they?
Valle wasn't anything at the same time were they?
Correct me if I'm wrong?!?!

Yes St. Vincent did. I remember watching them beat Fair Grove in the 98 Quarterfinals like 7-0? Or something like that.... I don't know where they finished that year after that game though...

1st, I wasn't calling out anyone. I said they NEEDED somebody on their sched to push them. Not much they can do till next yrs sched.

They do have the same problem Miller had with their good teams. The SRVC is great until you have a top team. All the schools are small enrollment and fit together well untill those top groups come along. I'm glad Miller isn't in a larger school conference this year or that last couple. Miller did always have a top team to push them though. Pierce City, Greenfield and Lockwood had some very good teams as well as Marionville and Thayer. Miller also added Hogan Prep. Lockwoods biggest failure is thinking they could get that game from WEMO schools.

Basketball is a different animal. While you really need about 20 good kids for football at the class 1 level a couple special kids can get you a long ways in basketball.
Valle has their success rooted in tradition and coaching but they still have the advantage of a larger pool of talent to draw from in St Gen. than almost any class 1 school. Without the coaching and tradition that likely wouldn't be enough to maintain like they do. It is a perfect storm scenario.

My jasper eagles thought that last year but midway showed us different. It was over from the start and could have been much worse than 35-0.

Is Westran a private school?

Then the SRVC isn't 'great'. It's mediocre and won't prepare a team for better comp from other conferences.

WEMO schools? Try scheduling the traditional powers instead of the fodder. What's Lockwood's record against Midway and/or Adrian . Heck..I bet they'd be glad to set up a home and home with the mighty tigers :D. Surely they'll keep it rolling. You're lucky Miller didn't join the WEMO with liberal and jasper.

Maybe SRVC teams should play 'up' more. No guarantees but it helps the probability of competition. Butler just whipped Lighthouse. Why won't SRVC teams play LCA?

Wellington must have some kids again. SouthBank is already on the prowl. You been quiet old buddy.

From 96ish to about 05? I know they were in the dome in 98 and 2000.

Which did coincide with Valle's down years. (did they have a 1 win season?)

If you are implying Valle gets athletes from Perryville or vice versa, you are clearly delusional and this conversation is over. Think what you want, but SV hasn't been anymore successful than the normal class 1 program, they had a good batch of kids come through like any other school. They are in the same position as Valle so obviously they should be equally successful, right? As far as Westran being public, you mean parents can't choose to move to send their kids to Westran just like Webb benefits? Oh, this is about privates like every year, WAAAAAHHH

Miller Bleach you hit it on the head, good post. It's nothing more or less than what you posted buddy

Private schools aren't all that in higher classes because the main benefit isn't as apparent.
Did anyone say or imply that the same kids went from SV to Valle? Don't kenny this thread up.

Yes you got it. Public school kids have to 'move' to a district. Valle just has a built in 'district' that has more kids than every other class 1 school. They get those kids and coach them up. Kenny would say the valle kids just outwork the SG kids.

Doesn't explain SV, They have more of a talent pool than Valle! Perryville public is class 4, Ste. Gen public is class 3. They have had some success but not nearly as much as Valle.

I agree. Valle kids get coached up. SV kids had some good coaches when they had all that talent coming through. I remember a little running back they had in 98. Can't remember the kids name off hand.

It's "great" when you aren't any good because you have a chance to win some games. Never meant it was "great" as in mighty. WEMO is the same, 1 or 2 good teams each year. To my knowledge, Miller has only played one WEMO team, seems like we won that one. No point in driving to KC to play a team you can play in your backyard (Marionville and Skyline come to mind).

I was wondering if they were available to replace McAuley.
