Wrestling Banquet Set for April 11
Fans can attend this year's celebration in the Clinton Club at Mizzou Arena

April 3, 2014

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou Wrestling program will celebrate a very successful 2013-14 campaign on Friday, April 11, with their annual end-of-the-year banquet. There is much to celebrate this year including the squad's second-consecutive MAC title and the program's fifth national champion in true freshman J'den Cox. The event will take place in the Clinton Club at Mizzou Arena beginning at 6 p.m. All are welcome to join the celebration for just $15 dollars.

Mizzou added two more All-Americans in 2014 in junior Drake Houdashelt (149) and true freshman J'den Cox (197). Houdashelt finished in fifth place this year at the NCAAs in Oklahoma City, picking up All-American honors for the second year in a row. Cox carved his name in Mizzou Wrestling lore by becoming the youngest Tiger to become a national champion at the age of 19. Cox topped top-seed Nick Heflin in the 197-pound finals 2-1 becoming just the 14th true freshman to win All-American honors in the tournament's 84-year history, and the first to win it at the 197 pound class (formerly the 190 and 191 pound classes).

The Tigers also put their third conference trophy on the shelves in 2014 in comeback fashion, posting 118.0 team points to edge out new MAC-rival UNI. All 10 Tigers placed in the top-6 of their respective weight classes with Houdashelt and Cox picking up conference titles. Cox was named the Tournament's `Most Outstanding Wrestler,' and he and Head Coach Brian Smith were recently named Wrestler of the Year and Coach of the Year by the MAC Conference. Smith has now been named conference Coach of the Year for the past three seasons, including 2012 when Mizzou departed the Big 12 Conference.

Despite being a young program that featured five freshman in the starting lineup this season, the Tigers will bid farewell to a special group of seniors Friday, including Zach Toal, Jordan Gagliano, Eric Wilson, Kyle Bradley and Taylor Ronan. The festivities will begin at 6 p.m. in the Clinton Club at Mizzou Arena. Tickets are $15 dollars and can be purchased through Mizzou Wrestling's Director of Operations, Todd Schavrien. Reserve your place by contacting Todd at schavrient@missouri.edu. MuTigers Wrestling Home
