Sometimes having high average incomes makes being successful even harder... Because those families and kids are not use to having to work to achieve, its been given to them thier whole life or they believe it is a right and not something they have to work for. That's why you see and hear a lot of towns and programs lean into thier blue collar roots because they have to work hard to achieve.
Here, here! This is what makes Ampipe so great! A hard working, blue collar town that has had to WORK for everything!

Kids are getting soft everywhere. Seeing it at Webb also. There is just too many other things they would rather be doing in todays world.
And those other things don't require the hard work and dedication that a successful team with average talent requires. So, they take the easy way out. Kinda where we're at.

I think being in the same district as Webb during the good years still hurts the program. The perception even in town is that they never win even though there were years that CJ was the 2nd or 3rd best team in class
Probably. I know it was a real drag on Carthage for a long time in some years where they really felt like they had something legit but the team still couldn't win even a district. A lot of surface level fans would just say well we can't win big games, we can't beat Webb, we must not be that good. Harder to get everyone excited about playing in that reality.

Playing in C5 without Webb City for a few years was in my opinion very beneficial for Carthage because it gave them the opportunity to compete on a larger stage against some very legit competition but without having to beat the state champion favorite in the first round every year. Some would say the bar was lowered, and that's true, but in my opinion it just made their reality more consistent with most other schools across the state because the bar was abnormally high to win a district for any school near Webb City.

Since WC is now in C5 too I'm hopeful CJ might be able to have a similar experience as Carthage did the last few years.
