Looks like I’m going to spend a week or so in Tacoma WA area over Xmas. Basically looking for anything near Fort Lewis. Any suggestions on where to stay, or where to stay away from? Never been to the area and am completely clueless.
I plan on it! I'm quite intrigued by the area, but totally clueless what to expect. You have any knowledge of the area?Enjoy!
Yeah, I'm not crazy enough to make that drive. Will have the wife, a 13 yr old, 8 yr old, and 4 month old in tow. We're going to fly, which should be fun with a 4 month old. Just crossing my fingers we don't wind up in the hospital with her after traveling on that big old petri dish...For reference, I go 40+ yrs of my life a single man with no kids. The woman I meet and decide I can't live without has two awesome kiddos, and we just had a baby. And her ex-husband is Army Special Forces and is in Fort Lewis. Seriously, 40+ yrs and the one I pick is the former wife of one of the world's biggest bad a$$e$. Only me. I just hope I don't wind up on a Dateline episode one day.We haven't made it up there yet. All I can say is we got our first frost yesterday and major snow in the upper ranges. It's an early winter, so if driving out plan accordingly.
Dangit. You and Cards were my big hopes on here. Their dad has literally just got orders for there and has never been there for long, so he doesn't know the area all that well either. Might just wait for him to get settled and try to grab something a little later. I'm telling you, the pics I've looked through on the internet are just incredible. Mountains and water everywhere. I'm just not looking forward to nearly being in Canada in December. LolNope.
Never been to the eastern part of the state.

Thanks! Big time appreciate it. I’d read some sketchy VRBO reviews on places in Tacoma about the area, which kind of lead me to seeking advice. This helps a ton! Does she have any knowledge of Lakewood or DuPont? Or thoughts on Seattle? We could possibly stay in Seattle, just would make for a longer commute to the base when needed. But shouldn’t have to do that more than a couple times for the week.Hey -- I know you don't know me but saw the thread and wanted to respond because my wife lived in that area for awhile. She says to expect sprinkles or rain daily. Also try to stay away from Tacoma itself if at all possible, many bad places there. Across the Tacoma bridge is Gig Harbor which she says is nice with a lot of crafts and festivals. She also said if you go towards Mount Rainier there will be snow there. Stay away from Spanaway as its the meth capital of Washington in her opinion, lol but Puyallup is nice. So there you have it, paraphrased notes from a complete stranger on Mo Sports, lol. Enjoy your trip

Thanks! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. Feel free to shoot me an email to paul_andrew_sutton@hotmail.com if it's easier. I'm good either way. Thanks again!i have a text in to her for some more information -- will get back to you soon good sir!
Awesome. Thanks. Kinda what I thought about Seattle. Was hoping I could persuade the wife away from staying there and just visiting for a day maybe. The more I checkout Gig Harbor, the more I like that idea. Place looks really, really cool.Lakewood and Dupont would both be fine she thinks. She says Seattle will be unbelievably expensive and the traffic in Seattle is a complete nightmare she says. She says you will absolutely enjoy the scenery so please take that in but stay away from Tacoma and Seattle.
So freaking true. Thank God he's a nice dude and we get along well. If not, I'd probably wet my pants every time I close my eyes at night.
Now, Seattle I’ve been to a couple of times.
Be prepared to be stared at. You’ll be an absolute freak there.
Imagine if you had to sit by Bosko on a flight!!You sound like the guy I have to sit next to every time I fly.
I was more referring to the beef you two seem to have. But I do appreciate the fat joke at his expense lolI’m no minuscule guy, but I recently got scrunched between two guys that had to weigh 700# between the two of them.
