I assume nothing much came of their opportunity to talk to Heyward after their season ended and before he hits the free agent market 5 days after the WS is over? Did he even have any discussions with them?

I haven't heard much but that doesn't always mean that much. Have you heard of ANYONE re-signing right now? MLB keeps WS pretty quiet.

No and I don't expect Heyward to until he tests the market, but the Cardinals have signed a few biggies without them giving other teams a chance. I assume at Heywards age he'll want to see what he's worth to other teams and for how long. But then I don't know what the Cardinal brass told him they would give.
