Bolivar/Conference

Rolla doesn't fit with the Jefferson City and Columbia schools either. Ozark is the right conference for them with Waynesville, Lebanon, Camdenton and West Plains for that matter.

You would think at some point Kickapoo, Hillcrest, Glendale, Parkview would join with Ozark, Nixa, Republic, Willard, Branson and maybe Central, would make a lot of sense from a travel standpoint, not sure Bolivar would be quite big enough but might open up something with the Joplin area schools.
A few years ago there was talk of Ozark and Nixa possibly having 2 high schools in each town at some point, I don't know if that is still a possibility.

Rolla is a good two hours from Springfield. WP is closer and feels like southwest Missouri. Rolla (halfway to St. Louis) isn't a good fit. Yes, for Waynesville, Camdenton, & Lebanon it's okay, but not for the Springfield schools or West Plains. Would be that big of a deal for them to join up with the new Columbia/Jefferson City conference?
Nice try. Mapquest says 1hr 28 min (with current traffic)

This is West Plains 17th year in the conference.
Started in the fall of 2002.
If it was that big of an issue, it would have already been addressed and they would be out of the conference.

I see no reason for them to be booted to make room for a Bolivar program that has ostracized themselves from being in any conference. Not to mention, West Plains enrollment is on par with most of the conference whereas Bolivars or Marshfields would not be with the exception of maybe Hillcrest.

Not saying West Plains should be booted from the conference but it is clear that they are losing students almost every year. I went back and looked at the numbers from 1996 and since they hit a high of 1333 in 2000 they have pretty much decreased from there. At this rate they could be under 1000 students in a few year. Bolivar and Marshfield have had up and down years but they have continued to grow since 1996. So in a few years Bolivar and Marshfield might be bigger than West Plains.....if the trend continues. At that point West Plains might want to look back at joining the SCA.

West Plains total enrollment is actually pretty stable. It may fluctuate about 100 kids some years, but that’s because a lot of kids that live in West Plains district have the option of going to Dora, Willow Springs, Bakersfield, Mountain View, etc.

For the last 10-12 years the enrollment has been a pretty constant fluctuation between 1100-1250.

1038 is their enrollment this year! Have been below 1100 the last 3 years.

Maybe I’m incorrect.
Regardless, enrollment is quite irrelevant whenever your team has been in the top half of the conference for the last 5 years(top 2-3 teams most years)
My point with bolivar is their enrollment is even lower, plus their ability to compete in the OC is much much less likely than WP is.

Even with WP decreased enrollment, they still have 200 more students than Bolivar does so is that really strengthening the argument that Bolivar should be in the OC? Especially when there are members of the OC that have 1400-1800 students?

Big yellow school bus traveling times here, not going 90 on I-44 in sports car. It just feels like Rolla is farther away to me. Nixa, Ozark etc. won't join with any OC teams, they think they're better than all the OC schools. Actually, the best ever era for the OC was the five Springfield schools plus Joplin between '88 and '99. In basketball, it was a double round robin and a true champion was crowned every single season. I'd take the five SPS schools and Bolivar in a second over the current lineup.

How big a mistake is Central back to Ozark Conference. It is 70-0 Camdenton in the 2nd quarter.

Shores just trying to save some face and reassert how “mighty” they are after the beatdown they took last week.

After the West Plains game he was quoted with saying “ the score was not indicative of how the game went”. He’s feeling a little sour.

Having -40 rushing yards and 150 yds of offense and being sacked 11 times in one game really did a number to their teams ego. Not to mention being outscored 41-0 after the first minute of the game.

They put Central back in the OC so there would be less travel. They use to have about 800 in the school, but don't know what they have now. I was always told hard to get kids out for sports there because they have a lot of kids that are sped and their IB kids are too busy with school work to play sports. They use to play a class 2 schedule and had trouble with that.

I’m pretty sure their enrollment now is somewhere between 1400-1600. I could be wrong.

Geographically West Plains doesn’t have a good fit anywhere for a conference but certainly as far as football based on their play the last few years they definitely should be in the Ozark Conference.
