Blair Oaks is the best football program in Mid-MO

Blair Oaks is very talented period which helps the coaching aspect of things. Even Walker had trouble with a lot of parents and the way he does things, but he won most over. There are still those that know more than the head coach. I am pretty sure if you ask any coach, going .500 is not OK with them, but again they are playing the kids they are given. Some .500 seasons are a winning season because of talent. One year in basketball I went 4-20, but that was a winning season because the program had not won that many in 3 years combined!

We can agree to differ on what success looks like and what it does not look like. You have to follow a team to determine how talent is used and not used. I think its an excuse to back up an agenda at times. Do you think Barry Odem is going to get a pass this year because he does not have talent? Strange how the team is playing better defensively once he took over much of the defensive responsibilities. Was it talent or coaching?

yes Blair Oaks schedule is completely noncompetitive. Could go 5 and 5 as a JV schedule. All you have to do is look up the numbers over the years.

They have played the weakest schedule there is since he took over the defense too! I said all along the defense was the problem at Mizzou. Maybe he needs to go be the defensive co ordinator and not head coach! JUST KIDDING! Can you blame Barry when he did not have a full recruiting season to get the kids he wants?

What would the numbers tell me then over the years? That they lost to very good play off teams?

Through the years I have had the privilege of knowing some really good head coaches and coordinators. To the man, they have all acknowledged that having the better Jimmys and Joes matters greatly. What they have not voiced, but I have observed, is that they will get all there is to get out of their players and if their players are better than your players then they will beat you. If yours are better than theirs, they may still beat you and if yours are a lot better than theirs they will still find a way to give you fits.

What is really interesting is when two really good and complete coaching staffs play each other and the talent is relatively equal. And I will tell you this, there are a LOT more good coaches now than when I was a young man so having a good coach is no longer the advantage it used to be but it is a bigger disadvantage not to have a good one.

I think Barry gets a pass this year, but with any school or university that has had some success in the past and its the revenue or front porch program, you have to find a way to win. If its your defense, if it's your passing game, its your running game, or special teams you have to find a way to use the talents given to you. Barry will not always get the people he wants nor do high school programs, but it won't matter if he does not win. Helias schedule this year was not near what it was the past 5 years or more either.

As well as it should not be the same because the lack of talent compared to the past at Helias. All I am saying is that it really would not matter who was at Helias, the record would still be about the same!

Disagree with you and we can leave it at that. I would tell you in talking with other people who are fans as I am and some coaches familiar with the situation, they have said talent is not the problem.

It is OK as a parent to think your kid is great, as they should. Realistically speaking, no way is there half as much talent at Helias the last 2 years as there has been the 8 before that!

Your opinion! I did not say I was a parent or even cared about that aspect cause I don't. I am a fan of football in Jefferson City area. This discussion started out complimenting BO and their success I was referencing other coaches who disagree with you about talent level. It was based on athletes that have and will possible will attend and play college at the next level as compared to teams in the past.

It is also discouraging for a coach to publicly say "we are not very athletic, but, we play hard." How motivating is that to say in public when you reference those players that play sports as student athletes. I have followed Helias for many years and well aware of talent and who has played and not played. In my opinion, this is excuse.

Please do not hurt the kids feelings by being honest! Seems to me a lot of people cause way too many problems for coaches. But it is OK for you to come on here and bash a coaching staff?
"If Helias could find someone with more creativity and football sense, they could be a force in Jefferson City once again." Maybe you should just apply for the HC head coaching job if it came open

Poor coaches!! The kids are your product and if you don't like it, find a new profession
I am not a coach, but it is funny you want to complain, but do not want to step in. Easy to do from the stands. You are probably one of those give everyone a participation ribbon guys

No I have coached and did so for about 20 years and out of it. I was not the best coach in the minds of the parents because I was hard on the players. However I won a majority of the games and recognized what I had to deal with in order for us to be successful. My agenda was for the players to learn the game, enjoy it, and successful. You should try coaching, you might learn something besides bashing parents as you normally do !

As a former coach, you should know better than to bash the current coaching staff at a school. That is all I am saying. I know the coach quite well and he knows what he is doing. By the way, I have coached for 20 years. Never been about the wins and losses, but the developing the young men and women through sports. We were pretty good too

Doesn't Jefferson City vote down a new high school every other year? Or does it just seem like that often?

A couple years ago, they voted on building a new "mega" high school but it failed miserably because most citizens want two high schools due to overcrowing and running out of parking. Its going on the April 2017 ballot

If it passes you have to think the old Central Missouri Conference will be reborn with the 3 Columbia schools, 2 Jeff City schools plus either Smith-Cotton or Helias.

If I were Jeff City HS, I would NOT join that conference. They're better off doing what they're doing. Just need to win more. No reason to lower the bar.

This is when the school gets split into two high schools. If that happens I would bet a new conference forms.

B O is a good team who has destroyed all the teams it has played. That being said they have played an incredibly weak
schedule. Year in and year out the schedule is incredibly weak so NO - not the best program. They must step up and upgrade the schedule to get that designation. They have a lot of great kids who work hard and play hard. It is not their fault the schedule maker does not challenge them.
My original post on this topic - still 100% correct and on point.
