There's also option C: it's pretty dumb to pitch a guy 2 innings up five runs if you are acting like he is your 2nd or 3rd best reliever. Now you can't use him in a close game today. I may not think he's that good, but Matheny does.

The kid only threw 22 pitches. They've been wanting him to throw something besides the heater. He threw some off speed stuff last night and got 4 Ks. Something he hasn't been able to do. Would you want him working on new stuff in a close game or one with a little cushion? I thought it was good see the kid gain some confidence in another pitch. That should make him that much better as the season goes along. And nailing down a win against a team you're chasing should never be anything to complain about. If they go to someone else and he blows it you'd have been on here bitching about that. It was a good win. We need another one today.

Lets face it. If we are up five runs in the 8th there shouldnt be a pitcher on your roster that you would hesitate to put in the game. Using Hicks in that situation, at least until you really need him, is absurd. If you cant trust a guy to not blow a 5 run lead then get rid of him . The Brew crew is now 15 games over .500.

So I guess we won't talk about the 1 run game tonight. He's still a kid and he will give up a lead now and then, but the potential of this kid is waaaay up there.
