That's a huge leap. But at the same time, I don't know that you're wrong, in principle. The multi-tiered justice system that we've always had isn't the fault of the system itself (other than the fact that it assumes at its core that human judges, etc. can be incorruptible); it's the fault of the humans running the system. The human element can never be fixed. This is not a conservative vs. liberal thing. This is and always has been a wealthy/connected vs. everyone else thing.
Not a leap at all. Trump has already said many times he will pardon all Jan 6 "patriots". If he can abuse his power in such a blatant manner , Ol' Joe decided to do the same for his son. Sure he will take heat for going against his word about pardoning Hunter, but he's riding off into the sunset of his career and doesn't care who doesn't like it.
What I really wonder is why the Founding Fathers were so obtuse as to think the pardoning power of the president wouldn't be abused.

Thing I don’t understand is Biden said the charges were all politically motivated, but wasn’t it Bidens own DOJ who brought federal charges against Hunter?? Hunter ended up being convicted in California and Maryland not exactly Republican hotspots.
Presidential pardons should be reserved for people who anyone with common sense would agree was unjustly convicted

Trump hasn’t been convicted of any federal crimes and about all charges have been or will be dropped. Not like Hunter who was charged by a democratic controlled DOJ and was convicted and plead guilty.
Trump was convicted on 34 felonies judge by a jury of peers. So don't try to pee on my leg and tell me it's raining.

Misdemeanors are made felonies when the crimes committed rise to level of felonies...otherwise they won't be tried successfully as felonies because of the burden of proof requirements.
But in the end, Trump was convicted of a crime that rose to the evidentiary standard of a felony. Neither you nor I would have gotten an ounce of slack in a similar case.
