Why might that affect the game?
Doubt it will have a major effect on the game.

No doubt. The years these guys put in to get to this level of officiating I doubt any would risk it making biased calls especially in the most watched event the National Championship.

would be great justification after the greatest screwjob in college football history, but they will get a fair shake.

I am sure I will get criticized by a few numbskulls who haven't
actually done a hurry up offense... But a couple of years back I ran an extreme hurry up
offense and I found that if we got some older or out of
shape refs they had an obvious tendency to call more penalties and
take longer to place the ball and start the play clock.

I always suspected it was to slow the game down so
they could catch their breath. Didn't have as many penalties
with younger refs--so yes my team was disciplined.

Basically the same thing that happens with officials in marginal shape doing high school basketball.
