BG 26 @ Lamar 27 F

Got to have someone that can kick an extra point.....
Lamar would have won 2 games earlier w a couple more x points BUT the team stayed w the kicker and he improved He actually had an obvious turnaround starting after he had struggled half the year ,the first field goal he made he was swamped and dog piled by the team. He has been very efficient since

I should have listened to BG’s radio again this week. I wonder if the announcers were still all giddy about getting a marginal Lamar team?
Cocky as ever. Sorry your squad didn’t make it to state, you’ll be ok! I promise.

Another crack at it. Not ranked to state title. Pretty fun to see the discourse throughout the year. A lot of adversity, injuries, and found a way. Very proud.

They have a special….uh hum… system in place !!
Some would say an unfair advantage….
I'm trying to figure out what unfair advantage Lamar has. The only thing that would create a quasi unfair advantage is they have 4 coaches that could be a successful head coach at any school.

I don't know if this is a compliment or a spite but I'm shocked Lamar has been this good for this long because their two biggest employers went bankrupt years ago . I work in Joplin and work with a few Lamar folks . There isn't hardly anything in Lamar in the way of jobs outside of farming .

I’m not real sure where the miss with my posts is on this thread. Either folks need to read them again after the liquor wears off or I’m missing some sarcasm? Either way, it’s all good. Just to be clear, I’ve been cheering on up to this point and I’ll be bundled up and pulling for all the SW MO teams next week in Cold Mo. Indians, Tigers, and Eagles x 2.

This is correct. It is nothing like working in Joplin and living in Webb. No one is moving to Lamar for a job.

Correct. It’s a culture, dedication, and sacrifice from a community of individuals who love our town and some football.

Maybe do better? When multiple people don’t see it? It’s a you problem. That being said it’s all good.

Probably from the Administration on down throughout the entire school and community. But I’ve been told by many posters the only way you can have a run like Lamar is by recruiting.

I have the utmost respect for a school like Lamar and all they have achieved. From the outside the kids and coaches seem very respectful and they play their tails off. I think they are a good example of what is possible for schools or communities regardless of their socioeconomic status.

Lamar is a nice place to live. What people may not realize is, even when those big employers closed down most people didn’t move away. If they had to get a new job elsewhere, they just commuted.

The town is high-quality and isn’t shrinking.

IMO Lamar is the perfect place to raise a family. Great school system with a supportive community, but small enough you don’t have to put up with the big city social issues. And whatever bells and whistles the town may not have on it’s own can be found in Joplin or Pitt. KC, Springfield, and NWA all a short drive away.

Would be interested to hear from Webb folk or the like on maintaining the culture/ tradition? I feel like the “struggles” this year had some folks checked out. That, plus being so used to success, I feel like the crowd numbers and overall excitement has waned a bit the last few years. Perhaps that’s just what happens with consistent success.. but man those first few years were fun. Would love to find a way to get that feeling back.

There was a clip going around Facebook this week of Coach Bailey at a pep rally in 2013 (Coach Beshore’s senior year, I believe). His main point was a discussion he had with a Warsaw coach, and also Coach Roderique. Essentially, tradition means nothing if you aren’t willing to work as hard as those that started the tradition. I think some Lamar parents and supporters need to take that to heart.

Very proud of the kids and coaches. Say whatever you want, but they made it to the big show once again.

Sounds like Bowling Green showed up in a very tough place to play and gave it their all. Can't ask for anything more than that. Naysayers be damned, they have had a very nice 3 year run. Congrats to them.
BG was solid, had a nice talk with a dad from BG! He was hoping to play SS and save some time driving. The 2 years we played BG, they got my respect! They had a hell of a year!
