How many times did we hear that when flaws were brought up all summer?

Are we still on pace for our 107 wins?
We were very lucky to win a lot of close games early. You need a balanced team that can score big when the pitching struggles. We could have easily had Cespedes. Easily. Mo blew it.
.

Nelson Cruz for a complete year and not give up anybody but money which they have plenty instead they are going to give it to a guy who stood at the wall and watched it hit the top of the wall while jumping 1 inch off the ground. 2nd game you new after the 1st inning once again the game was over 3 straight hits and then 3 straight Ks by your 4,5 and 6 hitters. UHGGGGGGGGGGGggggg this could go down as one of the biggest choke jobs ever if they don't wake up,

Can you name another team in MLB that has lost as many key figures over the last 365 than the Cardinals? Not every year is a championship year. The sooner delusional fans get that, the better.

So you are saying that if the Birds choke this away we should have expected this because of all the injuries? So we are delusional to think they could hold on to a 8 game lead for 4 weeks after being the best team in baseball for 5 months. They haven't given up the lead to this point, but they sure look like they might be done much like the Brewers last year. Games aren't even competitive. They leave runners all over the bases and are not pitching anymore and even if they do they lose 4-2 instead of winning 2-1 as they did most of the year. Must win today or I think at best they will end up as a wild card team. Can't lose 4 to the Reds in Sept. and expect to win your division!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nitpick you had to give up your first round pick to sign him. Which is a big deal

Every year we expect players like Craig or Freese to catch fire. Sometimes it happens this year it hasn't. We are a 90+ win team that hit all the right keys all year. They will be in the playoffs, anything can happen from there. It is what it is. Everybody should appreciate the season more instead of living in misery over lack of home runs and other BS.

Piscotty and Grichuck disagree with this statement.

Cards future is bright. The farm is drained but the future in the majors is bright.

Carp has stepped up with over 20 HRs in the absence of Holliday but I prefer the Carp that struck a LOT less, had 50 doubles and kick started the offense night after night from the leadoff spot. I don't mind a right fielder that can play D, throw very well, run the bases well and hit line drives with the occasional HR with an average around .290. I say lets keep him. Grichuk and Piscotty have proven they belong and can be run producers. Pham ain't a bad guy to have around either. Maybe we do need the DH...NAH!!!

Calm down Ducky you are going to have a heart attack

OK let me rephrase. We gave up a first round pick for a .220 hitting strikeout machine coming off hip surgery. This sends an ambiguous signal as to how much we value our first round selections causing me and VB to reiterate our prior desire to sign free agent 40 HR .300 hitter Nelson Cruz.:)

Adams wasn't hurt when Cruz signed. Adams was and still is our planned 1B. Once Adams and Holliday both went down Mo had to take a chance. Hindsight is 20/20 isn't it!

Oh, and by the way, the Cards STILL have the best record in baseball. :D

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Nitpick we just gave up a
!@#$% !%&+#$ first round pick
for !@#$% Brandon Moss.
So it isn't a big deal obviously.
That trade was horrible, and, yes, in a vacuum you'd rather have signed Nelson Cruz (or almost anyone else) than trade Kaminsky for Moss.

I have no clue what Mo was thinking there.

I'm starting to come around on the DH.

In fairness...Ducky called BS from the beginning on this trade. No hindsight there...Lord knows I did as well. I'm not as turned off by it now as I was in the beginning. But I bet I will be a couple years from now.

I'm talking about signing Cruz. We were never going to do that with who we expected to have at that time.

Check the archives. I was championing Cruz, not Tony, but Nelson before the free agent signings started, so zero hindsight. But I'm so starved for offense I have now started to miss PEDs.

The thing is I agree with VB, if you add a Jack Clark type hitter to this lineup I think it makes them all better.

And I'm saying the Cards were never going to do that. Sure it would look good now but we had players and wasn't looking to move one of them.

I suppose we could all champion all the top free agents every year and then could come back and claim to be the all knowing later. Heck that's easy. Only one team wins it all. All others "should have" done something different. I think I may join in. Odds are good I'd look like a champ every year.

Cruz was a free agent before the Heyward trade they made the decision to go with WAR instead of a legitimate #4 batter which has been a problem for 2 years now. I was yelling for Cruz the day free agency opened so there is no after the fact and I'm calling for it now as I do not and have never considered patch a cleanup hitter. Sign C Davis and forget his WAR and take his HRs and RBIs!! Is this early enough to keep from being called all knowing after a fact guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again, in fairness to Duck, he was shouting Cruz from the rooftops. From the beginning. And I don't really remembering anyone else he was clamoring for, at least not as fully as Cruz. So it's not like he's cherry picking.

The Cards run isn't going to last forever. We all know that. The Cubs are a few relief pitchers and a starter away from being super. The pirates are athletic and probably only held back by finances. If we add a stud bat and keep most of our team intact maybe we can fend these teams off a few more years.

Chris Davis is going to have a fascinating contract. I really wonder what he gets.

The issue with him is do you get Chris Davis from 2013 & 2015 or Chris Davis from every other year of his career?

Also RE: forgetting his WAR...guys who hit 40-50 HR with ok batting averages post pretty big WAR #.

Imo that's a lot of what if"s and its easy to say we should of did this and did that. I would of loved to see Cruz in a Redbird uniform and Scherzer also but it didn't happen. I bet if Cruz would of came over and blew his ACL out people would be saying Mo blew it.

Good news looks like the pitchers are getting back into the groove now it's just a matter of trying to score 2 runs a game and it looks like we aren't going to do it tonight.

VB if you keep telling the truth this board can actually be fun again.

First team to 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, and now 90 wins. Let's get 100 and see where we're at. Any other year the second best team in baseball wouldn't be in our division and we'd be breathing easier. But Mike won't allow that to happen. They'll keep grinding out wins like last night.

Go Cards.
