Question; is the bat flip acceptable due to its a reaction to a big time homer, or is it disrespectful and immature? I can only imagine someone giving one of Bob Gibson! Better come up to bad fully wrapped in bubble wrap the next at bat.

Sutcliffe hit the nail on the head when he said ESPN has brought this on with it's highlight reel stuff. He was bragging about it and I think it ruined a lot of sports because all kids today think about is making that kind of play rather than team play and winning games. I agree that if a guy did to Gibson and a few others, he better hope he never had to face him again.

I think it's just where we are. Things change. Sometimes my thought is, just a kid having fun playing a game. Other times, I think, sheesh I hate what this is teaching the kids watching. Lots of look at me stuff.

Driving to somewhere the other day with our 14 yr old. Listening to Art Hains and somebody talking Cardinals or something. If you're not familiar with Art, he's been in sports radio in Springfield forever. And is just great, IMO. Covers sports, doesn't give a ton of opinion, and just tells you the story. A lost art. And he does it without yelling and screaming like Stephen A and those other idiots that scream and yell to get their point across. The 14 yr old proceeds to tell me he's boring because he doesn't talk very loud or yell or get excited like "those guys on ESPN". I just sighed and turned the volume up really loud and asked if that was loud enough. 14 yr old was unamused. I thought to myself, this is where we are today.

Unfortunately you're right. This is where we are today. Very little about today is better than it was 20-30-40 years ago. Sure the technology and instant info seems great. But is it really? We all got along just fine without it. The level of respect shown today is at an all time low. And much of the blame has to go to the internet. All you have to do is take a peak at the Crap forum on this site to see how grown men are acting today. How do kids have a chance?

And there it is. Couldn't agree more. Kids adjust to expectations. We've lowered them, exponentially.
