That was shockingly bad. Carp is perfect example of a one tool player. He's pretty good at hitting but below average at everything else. Thinking even seems to be hard sometimes. If you want to turn a double into a triple you might wanna run hard the first 90 feet. Dumb play in the 9th with nobody out, but if Carp would have ran hard out of the box he would have made it, he didn't kick in until he rounded 1st.
You weren't hammered by me. I've said several times that Adams was better 1B. Some don't agree with that.Carp is a terrible first baseman. I said it last year and was hammered by some on this board. His footwork is bad. His hands are below average. His intensity level on defense is not very good. He is worse than Adams. In the game we were up 2-0 and blew, Broxton had a guy picked off twice but Carp cant do a sweep tag. He is a robot at first base.
On top of that he is continually "going for a walk". He leads the NL in walk %. Thats not what anyone needs in the 3 hole. And I love the guy.
As bad as his decision to go for 3rd was his decision NOT to run hard out of the box was worse. He actually had a triple the way the ball bounced if he had run hard the first 90 feet. Once he dogged it to 1st the chances of making 3rd went out the window. You weren't hammered by me. I've said several times that Adams was better 1B. Some don't agree with that.
I don't have a problem with his hitting. But he's not good in the field. Playing him at 1B just magnifies it. He can't help the other fielders with his glove. He even surprises himself when he does dig one out. And he doesn't get the max out of a stretch. He's scared to death over there. But he's there for awhile. They're not going to platoon Peralta and Jed there.
But he thought it might be a walk off HR. You have to admire those. At least for a little while. Lol. I actually didn't think he picked up much speed after he got around 1B. He's really slow. The guy can hit a baseball better than most. But's he just doesn't appear very athletic. Even his throws look stiff armed. Nothing other than hitting the ball appears natural for him.As bad as his decision to go for 3rd was his decision NOT to run hard out of the box was worse. He's not good at 1B, at all. But you can't say you'd rather have Adams over there, can you? Basically an option was trading one of Grichuck or Piscotty, move Marp to the OF, and keep Adams and play him at 1B (probably in some sort of IF rotation with Peralta/Adams/Wong/Jed/Diaz/Wong all getting equalish ABs)...or do what they did and move Adams. Marp's gotta play somewhere, and I at least think he'll get better as the year goes on. Which means he'll be slightly worse than horrid. Lol.You weren't hammered by me. Nah. Defensively Adams is better the Marp. But he never figured out how to hit enough to keep the spot. He was the odd man out of the roster and probably needed to go.He's not good at 1B, at all. I'd rather see him in LF, but given the current roster construction there's really no way of making that happen.
I mean, it's not a small curve to get to awful even. I give you that. I've been shocked at how bad he is. He's slightly, and ever so slightly, above the "he might get hurt if we play him there" level. Might not hurt MO to kick the tires on shopping an OF'er or two just to see what's available. That bucket of balls we got for Adams really isn't going to help much.Let's hope Marp improves that much.
Lol. I hate to keep bagging on Marp. Unfortunately the spotlight is on him often and he just makes it so easy to do. But he's just one example of how far the D has fallen since the TLR and MV3 days. We've went from being surprised when any difficult play WASN'T made to surprised when any IS made. It's sad.I mean, it's not a small curve to get to awful even. I give you that. He is certainly a bad baserunner, and has been for a while. He's not alone. Piscotty is like his mini me on the bases. One of my big beefs with MM. These are controllable things. My guess is their approach is run the bases like mad men when the ball is gapped, because they know they can't steal. I truly think it's a team approach. And it sucks. Strangely, they seemed to run the bases better when Oquendo was around. Odd.Right on cue:

Only thing I would disagree with is a first basemen's potential impact. A good 1B can turn bad throws into outs instead of errors. Marp is definitely below average at that.
3R is describing Wong to a T. He can make some dazzling plays. But a two hopper right at him is sometimes an adventure.
Yea I like Joe's stuff. I don't really read much of any of them. Those guys have way too much time on their hands and are too ate up with it. Lol. I do follow Joe on twitter. He is certainly a bad baserunner, and has been for a while. He's not alone. Piscotty is like his mini me on the bases. One of my big beefs with MM. I get what you're saying about a good 1B, but he's certainly the least impactfull of the 3B/2B/1B that Marp has played. Which I believe what Joe was saying...Btw, how freaking awesome are Joe's articles??? That dude is top shelf.
Hell I'm asleep by the 2nd inning. Stayed up long enough to watch Yadi get thrown out by 20ft trying to steal uhgggggggg This teams base running is embarrassing. The good thing about these West coast games is that I am asleep before the bullpen collapses.
Just read that and it seems he never does anything wrong. He is wearing me out everytime he takes a called strike he gives the ump his look of disgust. Somebody does need to tell him he is slow and shouldn't be running into so many outs. On different note once again a play not made cost the Birds the game last night when Pisscotti could not field the ball in the corner cleanly allowing the winning run to score without a throw. In the last week the Birds have had a starting pitcher go 9 and give up 0 runs and go 8 and give up 1 run and lose both games UhgggggggggggggggggggggMarp's response to getting thrown out at 3B.

He's not taking criticism too well. He declined to talk after that game.
Yes he has a really hard time saying he screwed up.Just read that and it seems he never does anything wrong. And made Wacha leadoff the next inning instead of getting him out of the way.Yadi runs into a sure out at home. He had no chance.
How many guys on this team have to run into stupid, stupid outs before we can point fingers at the coaching staff instead of the individual player. Have I mentioned lately how much I miss Oquendo's presence???Yadi runs into a sure out at home. He had no chance.
You have to wonder how things might be if Jose had been given the top job. And also what really prompted him to quit the big team. I know he had the knee issues but I believe he was over that enough to start this year. He'd been in the traveling circus for 30 years. Did he really just decide it was time to stay home or was there friction that aided that decision? Either way he's missed terribly. It's hard to believe a lot of these issues we're seeing would be happening if he was still around. How many guys on this team have to run into stupid, stupid outs before we can point fingers at the coaching staff instead of the individual player. Couldn't agree more. I'm not even sure I'd like to see him in the manager's role, but I sure as hell miss him over in the 3B coaches box. And his coaching on the bases and in the field. I know this, these issues sure weren't as prevalent when he was on staff. I get what was said publicly, but I also have heard the rumblings of various STL media guys as well. He applied for the job so he must have wanted it. To come back and work for someone they picked over you, when you probably thought you were more qualified, would be tough I'd think. That would be difficult, for sure. Especially if you don't agree with the important decisions, or at least the decisions he seemed to make under The Skipper. I have a feeling, after a while of working together, The Skipper just got out of the way and let him do his thing. He applied for the job so he must have wanted it. I wonder how many times he yells at the TV now like we do?

I believe he is an instructor for the rookies in Jupiter. That would be difficult, for sure. Lol. I'd say a good bit more than we do even. He's probably got a bit more keen of an eye. Is he working anywhere in the organization now?
There's a lot in this article. Both said and unsaid I think. That would be difficult, for sure. Carp is still a bad baserunner. How do you get doubled off 2nd on a bunt that was popped up to the 3rd baseman and caught 30 feet from HP? That is just too much time to get back. There's a lot in this article. Both said and unsaid I think.

Watching that play from my shady RF seat I think what happened was Marp tried to get a good jump off second and was out there pretty far. He needs to get good jumps because he has no wheels. He was so far off when he realized it was going to be caught he couldn't get back in time. Another negative due to his no wheels. He is one of the worst baserunners on the team. He's slower than molasses. And he simply doesn't possess the instincts that Yadi does. He's below average at everything baseball related except reading the strike zone while standing in the box and or course hitting the ball.Carp is still a bad baserunner. Not at all, that's why the "?" was at the end. But would it surprise you?You know this for a fact?
nope Thought maybe you heard MM say something different. All I heard was MM dance around the questionNot at all, that's why the "?" was at the end. But would it surprise you?
