Are there too many basketball tournaments?

Looking at a bunch of tournaments throughout the state it feels like more than ever there aren't full 8 team brackets. Either a JV team is in the field or it's teams playing pool play for two rounds.
It lends the question... are there too many tournaments?

Now you can just pick that game up. Also, smaller schools have a 1 or two year window where they are really good so they look to move up for a year or 2. Example this year is Eugene. They are playing in the Jeff City Holiday tournament because they have kids that can compete, unlike most years. Fatima was that way for a few years.

We love it. The more tournaments there are, the better the odds are we can get our Class 6 team into a tournament with Class 2 teams.

If we look hard enough, we'll eventually find one, even if it's five hours away.

That is not the case anymore. You can play 26 games (I believe) and it does not matter on the number of tournaments. You can play all tournaments if you are not in a conference now.

Carl Junction boys this season competed in four tournaments -- Forsyth Tournament (Dec. 3-7), Carthage Tournament (Dec. 12-14), Neosho Holiday Classic (Dec. 26-28) and the Kaminsky Classic (Jan. 7-9).

Two years ago when Carl Junction girls lost in the Class 5 state championship, Carl Junction competed in five tournaments -- the Carl Junction Classic (Nov. 28-Dec. 1), the Fort Smith Taco Bell Tournament of Champions (Dec . 8-10), McDonald County Lady Mustang Classic (Dec. 12-14), Pittsburg, Kansas Bill Hanson Memorial Tournament (Jan. 19-21) and the Lebanon I-44 Lady's Classic (Jan. 26-28). Won four of the five and losing in the championship game of the Fort Smith Tournament to eventual Oklahoma state champions Sapulpa.

They changed that a few years back. Per MSHSAA.
These changes will take place in upcoming 2021-22 season. • The committee voted to support the MSHAA total games allowed MSHAA ballot item which will allow schools to play 26 games however they choose (26 tournament games or 26 regular season games or combination of both).

She would be permitted to play a maximum of 26 × 4 or 104 quarters in the season. If Carthage had been eliminated from the Pink & White tournament and had only played 25 games then she only would have been permitted to play 100 quarters throughout the span of the season. MSHSAA again changed bylaws a few years ago permitting players to compete in both Varsity and subvarsity—that is, any level below Varsity (not a "substitute" on Varsity)—provided they play in separate tournaments and do not exceed the limit of 6 quarters per calendar day.

I think it is 5 x. At least it was when I was in the business many moons ago. LOL. But yes, they can play 6 quarters in 1 night, but can only play 4 in another night to equal it out.

In the Basketball Handbook it now just says quarter limit is 130 per season which is 26 x 5 but there is no mention of quarters according to highest level team like there used to be. 6 is the most on one night between 9th/JV/ or JV/V or whatever.

Saw a kid one year, start on the JV team and play a few quarters and then turn around and start on the Varsity team and play all 4 quarters

That rule changed several years ago. North Andrew played in four tournaments the past two years.
