63% of players selected in 2018 NFL Draft

Were 3 Stars or less coming out of high school. Boom.

In the last recruiting cycle
  • 33 five-stars, or 0.01 percent of the class
  • 399 four-stars, or 0.13 percent of the class
  • 1,409 three-stars, or 0.47 percent of the class
  • 1,842 two-stars, or 0.61 percent of the class
  • 296,317 unrated, or 98.77 percent of the class
There are more than ten times as many 3* or less recruits as there are 4* and 5* recruits combined, so of course there is a high percentage of 3* or less recruits who get drafted, that's basic statistical probability.

And really you undermine your point when the reality is, even though they make up .14% (or way less than 1%) of the overall recruits, 4* and 5* recruits make up almost 40% of the college players drafted.

Boom. Basic math.

Heard a story recently. A coach at a D 1 University (unnamed) was recruiting a player the staff thought a lot of. The kid didn’t have any “stars” attached to his name, however, and it looked to boosters and alumn that they weren’t recruiting the right kids. The coach called a buddy of his at ESPN and told him their predicament and “Presto!” the kid is immediately a “3 star recruit”.

Exactly. You get my point. You dont need stars to be a college or NFL player. Boom. Period. No other point.

Still waiting to hear from the wrestling coaches how many of this years draftees wrestled in high school. That's always real intriguing.

AND 62% PARTICIPATED IN TRACK AND FIELD

Almost every player who was selected in the 2017 NFL draft played more than just football in high school.

This information comes from Tracking Football, which also found that 60 of the first 64 picks were multi-sport athletes.

EARLIER: 30 of 32 NFL first-round picks were multi-sport athletes

In all, 222 of the 253 players selected played more than one sport in high school. The majority (62 percent) ran track, while 45 percent played basketball.

Most athletes (53.4 percent) played just two sports, though some (32.8 percent) played three. Four players drafted played four sports in high school.
