3R or Ducky’s new fav stat?

I know this, when Bob Gibson pitched, his teammates did not want to let him down. To a certain extent, C. Carp was the same.
To say you can measure that is laughable however.

I heard an NBA player one time say he was watching 4 of the Celtics warm up before a game and thought "there was 4 average athletes".

Then Larry Bird came out of the locker room and joined them and he thought to himself "there is one great basketball team". You cant quantify what some people bring to a team. I know you youngsters think you can.
But you are a basketball guy. And you know certain players make a difference beyond stats. I believe it applies to all sports. Carry on with your ridicule.

I bet that you are hell to live with Ducky...LOL ;)

So Hawk helped with this? Sounds a lot like "the will to win"
It appears to me that agents are coming up with anything they can to try to sell their guy to an MLB team. You know like 'quality starts.'

Quality starts have been around for a very long time.....and it's based on actual numbers that even a child can follow

So I'm not sure what you're shooting for here

I'm not shooting for anything, I've always heard it was the invention of an agent or agents to get more money for their guy.

Might be. But at least it has some basis in reality and is usable..... With some context

It was also made by a Philly sportswriter in 85. It's not something to base an argument around, but it's not completely worthless. It could use some tweaking, like 7 innings rather than 6

This story\stat is a joke. I almost want to believe this was a video from the Onion or he is realted to Hawk Harrelson

I understand the concept of specialization of labor. And using a fresh relief pitcher throwing gas in each of the 6-9 innings makes sense. But I really miss the days when a starter going 7 innings wasnt looked upon as an amazing achievement.

A quality start isn't an amazing achievement though. That's why I say 7 innings. That seems like a fair number to get to. If you stretch that out for a season, that's 224 innings with a 3.85 ERA. That's a quality starter. Not an ace.... But still a damn good pitcher

No. I understand and agree with you.
Its just the announcers act like its an
amazing accomplishment if a starter makes it that far.

And I agree. I would personally like to see more 7-9 inning starts. I understand why it isn't common anymore.... But it's fun to watch

I get a #5 starter going 5 innings and bring considered useful. But I want to watch deGrom, Max, Kershaw, etc throw complete game shutouts
