Laughable. Class 3 is a joke. Strafford has earned being the #1 team until they are not. Skyline should be #2. Diamond being ranked ahead of Miller is also ridiculous. Diamond has beat nobody and their loss was by 30 to College Height who Strafford beat by 30.

I know Webb City isn't great but what Miller did to a much larger school was impressive.

Miller's only loss on the season was to the number 2 ranked Class 6 Kickapoo. They beat Webb City by 20+ twice and beat Blue Eye who is 3rd in Class 2.

Early rankings are mostly based in reputation. Extra tough to rank this year with players missing in quarantine. Just be happy they are playing and continue playing. The cream will rise to the top.

I agree kaskaskiakid. With that being said I’m a little surprised Westminster doesn’t even get a mention in Class 4. I would also watch out for Delta in Class 1 as the year progresses. They will walk to the Elite 8 where they could meet up with Chadwick or South Iron.

I don’t see how Strafford should be #1, didn’t Skyline beat them last year?

Strafford has won 5 straight class 3 titles.
Miller beat Skyline last year twice. Doesn’t mean they should be ranked ahead of them this year.

Miller is the one team that always has Skyline’s number. Against most everyone else this season and last, Skyline has looked like world beaters

I guess the rankings if anything give you something to talk about. Pius is Class 5 and East Buchanan is way down from last years championship. Their all-state freshman from last year is out for the season then had a couple players not come out so its going to be a rough year for them. How about Maryville in Class 4 no even getting votes. They were 3 points short of a final 4 appearance last year, return everyone including their D1 Kansas State signee. There is the biggest snub in my mind.

I fully expect to see Skyline in the final four. Unless Miller can beat Strafford they won’t play this year. Miller beat Skyline in the elite 8 in Volleyball as well. Should be a good rivalry in both sports for the next few years. Early numbers say Miller will be back in class 2 next year.

Be easy on the early season polls. I used to vote in them...there is no way for you to have enough information to do a solid job on them in week 1... all of it is hearsay. Be thankful there is a poll! It's only really for us anyways!

Hell they could start by paying attn to scores and basketball and get close

That is why I think the media should do the voting. The 8-man football poll is usually pretty good because it is from media instead of coaches. Also, each class should have its own media. KC and St. Louis area may know Classes 4-6 well, but not 1-3 as well.

Coaches are voting on 6 classes in two divisions, coaching their own teams and knowing teams in your regions. Not everyone has time to check the mshsaa matrix of scores and reporting.... the polls always get more accurate. Be thankful :)
If its worth doing do it well if not dont mess with. Id be fine not having one but if your gonna lets atleast make an effort

I like the poll, and appreciate those who vote on the teams. It forces discussion anc it’s like any early poll, don’t bet your money just yet. It will change!

Class 3 should probably look something like this

Monroe City *They haven't played but one or maybe two teams with a winning record
Skyline
Strafford
Miller
Tipton
Sparta
West County
St. Pius X
Steelville
South Calloway

Licking *When they are healthy they are one of the better class 3 teams. Not the powerhouse of old but good

Class 4 is an odd collection of teams but after the Christmas games here's what I think

Westminster
Central Park Hills
Mount Vernon
Boonville
Fatima
Hollister
Chillicothe
Central New Madrid
Macon
Eldorado Springs

Maryville St. James Cameron Willow Springs all in the hunt

Your going to leave Maryville off with a 1 loss record and a team that returns everyone from an elite 8 run last year? Also having a d1 commit that is in the running for Player of the year?

Good catch. When I went through that region I felt like I was missing someone. Their schedule does not look up to date on MSHSAA. Generally that KC region is one of the easier regions to get through and it is also hard to gauge those teams it seems like. Just an opinion though.

You are right on with Licking. They might not crack the rankings because of the schedule they have played and some injuries, but anyone underestimating them is a fool.

No knocking you. Just providing some insight from up this way. We are in the same conference as Maryville and Chillicothe and hands down Maryville is better. All good points of debate.

Clever should be 9-3 or 8-4 so far. If so they'd probably at least be getting votes in Class 3. They were ahead by 3 vs Mt Vernon early in the fourth quarter in the P & W but then Lacy Stokes happened. So as it is they are 4-6...

I think this argument could be made for any team if you give them 5 more wins and take away some losses. I could see this maybe being a legit argument if your best player got quarantined during the losses?

Strafford has won 5 straight class 3 titles.

Your two statements sort of contradict each other, right? Shouldn't it be based on this year?

The 8 man football poll also has about two handfuls of teams in one general area of the state.

It should be based on this year. When you are the 5 time defending champion though you get the benefit of the doubt. They have not did anything yet to make me think they are not the best team in class 3.

When you are the 5 time winning team, that means your chances are declining each year to win it again in any school.
