Glendale(7-5) defeated Jeff City(4-6) 91-70 tonight in the first round of the Kaminsky Classic. 200th career win for Glendale head coach Brian McTague. First win over the Jays since 1994. We had lost three straight to them since that victory ('95, '99, & ,'06). Falcons play 9-3 Francis Howell in the semis on Friday.

Monty Johal, Jordan Walton, & Jaxon Davis made the all-tourney team. Johal scored 90 points during the tourney. He passed Tyler Rullman on Glendale's all-time scoring list against Francis Howell yesterday.

First regular season tournament title for Glendale since 2012. Had been the longest streak without winning one in program history. That's over!!!!

NEW RECORDS SET (AGAIN!)
- Monty Johal moved ahead of Spud Harbour with a layup in the first quarter to become Glendale's all-time career scoring leader.

- Monty Johal scored 51 points in the game, which is now the new single game scoring record for Glendale. Dr. Tom Shultz scored 47 in 1974.

Well, as usual in recent years, I won't be attending. I'm going to check out Hillcrest-Joplin that night.

I think, as usual, POO just has too much for us. Wouldn't be surprised with a Republic like point-total loss, but in a higher scoring game.

POO's butt kicking of Parkview last week made it quite clear they're still head and shoulders above most of the teams in the area. (I only see Nixa and Republic as true challengers).

Yes, Glendale pulled off an upset in 2014, but I've had to sit through FAR TOO MANY defeats since 1996 (8-30!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and I'm just not going to sit through yet another one.

If my Falcons can pull off an upset, GREAT!!!!, but I highly doubt it.

I will be attending next years game, though. If that lets you know who I think should/will win in February of 2018. Looks like we're falling into a pattern of Glendale being in a position to beat Kickapoo once every four years, which is very depressing.

Glendale-Kickapoo is still a dying rivalry (in my opinion), because one of the teams can't keep up their end of the bargain. Sorta like the Chiefs-Raiders in the 90's. I think Oakland won twice that entire decade. For people who don't care about winning or don't remember the score or who won, etc., I guess it doesn't matter, BUT I ONLY CARE ABOUT WINNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sports means very little to me outside of the desire to win, to be THE BEST! You can't have/maintain that desire, if you don't feel like there's any realistic chance of your team winning. It just kills my passion/enthusiasm, etc.

I will say that if Kickapoo has an off night shooting, Josh Call rebounds like a madman and Walton/Johal/Davis all score 20+, we might have a chance.

Damn! Monty missed the all-time SPS mark by two points! Curtis Hargus scored 52 for Hillcrest against Jeff City. I should've told the coaching staff the Glendale record was 51!!!!

What a strange game. Lebanon actually has some talent, but they came in (apparently) with the ridiculous game plan of trying to "run and gun" with Kickapoo, and that was never going to work. The game wasn't as close as the score would indicate. At least it helped Ridder and Davis get closer to their scoring milestones, I guess.

Kickapoo's ability to run-and-gun is the most worrying aspect of Tuesday's game to me. We (Glendale) can out score the likes of Hillcrest and West Plains, but The Poo is another kettle of fish entirely. I also think The Poo can play better TEAM defense than my Falcons can. It wouldn't surprise me if the score is like 89-67. Something like that. On the other hand, it wouldn't shock me if Glendale pulled it out 92-87. Who knows. The Poo will be favored, though. We've got to have about 5 to 7 three's from Jaxon Davis. Monty and Jordan near 30 points each for the game. Rebound disadvantage must be kept to a manageable margin. Josh Call needs to have about 10 for the game. It would help if Jared & Cam could be held below 20 each and Vokolek picks up some early fouls, which has happened a few times this season. Has Cam been turned over much this year? I think Glendale has an advantaged in the guard department, but it's hard to turn Cam over. Glendale's a little quicker, but POO can run too! McCaskill might be the difference maker, if the big stars have off nights.

The game felt closer than the score showed. Great atmosphere. Exciting game to watch

Wish I could've been there, but I stopped enjoying Glendale-Kickapoo games many, many years ago. All it means to me is another sleepless night. I'm sure it was exciting for those on the Kickapoo side and those just going to watch a good high school game.

Jared Ridder is 117 points away from Ryan Rippee's Kickapoo career scoring record and Cam Davis scored 29 to break the 1,000 career points mark.

I greatly enjoyed the Hillcrest game last night. Got to see Freeman dunk three times. He's a BEAST and maybe the best player in the city as a sophomore.

Neat sequence where Hillcrest scored just before the buzzer and then stole the in-bounds pass which allowed Freeman to hit a jumper before time run out. I thought it broke Joplin's back.

Also, with the 75-52 win by Hillcrest they finally moved ahead of Joplin in the all-time series 40-39. The Hornets had never led the series since the two teams started playing in 1959.

I agree. Wellington-Napoleon really surprised me this year after losing so many Seniors last year, but after losing to Lawson in triple OT in the first game of the season, they've rattled off 21 straight and stand 21-1. Along the way they've had some pretty good wins against Odessa, Oak Grove, Higginsville, and O'Hara and have beaten conference foes St. Paul Lutheran and Santa Fe twice. Looks like they will be #1 seed in districts and may have to face old foe Stanberry in the first round of the playoffs. That would be a good one.

Glendale Falcons(17-6, 6-1) - 92
Parkview Vikings(15-7, 5-2) - 84

Glendale leads the all-time series 81-55. They've won 24 of the last 27 meetings since 2001. Walton 31, Johal 24, Davis 18.
Glendale's 50th Ozark Conference victory of the decade.

#5 Class 5 Kickapoo Chiefs(17-4, 6-0) - 84
Joplin Eagles(9-13, 2-5) - 39

Chiefs lead the all-time series 45-7. Ridder scored 30 and is only 87 points off Ryan Rippee's school record.

Don't sleep on Mid Buchanan in Stanberry's district. They can matchup size wise and are probably 10 deep with athletes. It will be interesting to see.

From the "O-Zone" story about the Kickapoo-Hillcrest game

“That’s always one of our goals going into the year,” Davis said. “We know how hard it is to go 9-0 in the Ozark Conference. We had a chip on our shoulder this year. Glendale was getting a bunch of attention. Hillcrest was getting a bunch of attention. We just wanted to go out there, play our hardest, do our best, and let the chips fall where they may.”

I wish Glendale would play with a chip on its shoulder just once!!!

Oh, wait. We did against Republic. Didn't work out too well.

Nevermind. Bad idea!

Everyone will get their revenge on Kickapoo next season. But next year's Glendale-Hillcrest game will be something else... (again)

I don't think one year can make up for the 25 years of domination. But, whatever!

Anyway, I sure hope it'll be "the year" for GHS. I must say that we've bombed the last three times we were supposed to have "the team"...'06-'07, '08-'09 & '11-'12.

Next year BETTER be different.

Might have been the last post-season game ever played at Glendale's Falcon Court. If the Bond passes in April, we'll have a new gym by the time we get to host districts again.

I know Jared Ridder has a few more games left (more than likely), but it looks like Monty Johal set a new SPS scoring average of 27.6 points per game this season. Glendale's Tyler Rullman held the record at 26.9 in '88-'89. Monty wasn't able to top Rullman's 780 point total in '88-'89, but did score 746 points this season.
