People like some of you idiots are spreading it's like the flu, you'll get over it and whatever other bs. Kids aren't wearing masks because the government insinuates it's not important. Tomorrow we will have 3 grades quarantined and 15 teachers at least. My wife gets it that will be the whole elementary on quarantine (specials teacher).

Alright I went ahead and entered the schedules into my spreadsheet so we'll give it a whirl until teams start cancelling. It's week one and with all the uncertainty, plus I haven't read up on teams like I normally have at this point. So my picks are totally shooting from the hip. And who knows what can happen this particular week 1.

• Nixa at Branson - Nixa has a new coach and maybe a promising future. But I'll go with Branson opening at home. 24-21
• Ozark at Carthage - Ozark has caught Carthage with their pants down more than once in week 1 but I like the Tigers. 35-14
• Webb City at Joplin - Joplin lost big names but they have confidence and a good coach. Webb City has all those things and more but I'll pick Joplin 35-28 because things are weird this year, covid is running wild through the R7 district, plus Webb will be playing without a crowd advantage (even on the road) for the first time in over 30 years.
• Republic at Neosho - No idea here. I keep thinking Neosho is going to make a run but they keep letting me down. I'll still go with them at home 17-14
• CJ at Willard - CJ might be poised for a comeback. If they indeed have numbers and talent they will eat Willard for lunch. But if there are too many kinks trying to run complex schemes, Willard has the horsepower to cash in. I'll say CJ 28-14.

So basically I just picked home teams except Carl Junction.

Because of all the changes during the pandemic including schools postponing games and MSHSAA not coming out with classes until mid-September - there will be some changes for the rules for the 2020 Survivor Contest. Pick the winner of five 11-man games each week. They can be from any size of school. You can only use the team you picked to win once throughout the season. Be sure and check whether your team is actually playing - if you choose a team and they don't play that week you are out. Here's to hoping we have a full season. Entries are due by Friday at 3:00 p.m. (get your picks in earlier if you are choosing a Thursday game)

Has anyone heard any statements, rumors, or conspiracy theories on seating or allowing fans at games? Schools and local media around here have been sharing sports schedules on social media but I have yet to see anyone address this aspect.

Is the 3 tier thing mshsaa put out the plan? If so most people I've talked to know nothing about it.

Ozone has been putting out their previews as if everything is normal. Reading through some of these makes me sad for these kids especially the seniors knowing that it seems unlikely the season will play through to entirety, if even at all. But who knows.

The little bit of street info I’ve got… some friends from WC mentioned they may have one of the best rosters ever. Haven’t really heard much from Carthage. Only thing I’ve heard about CJ is really, really low numbers although that contradicts the article. Haven’t heard anything about Joplin. Will be interesting to see if they continue to be good after last year’s graduation. I’m also interested to see what direction Nixa goes with the new coach. Could be one of those years where there is Webb City and then about 5 teams potentially in the running after that.

Hopefully we’ll get to find out.

Cards1968 is getting cancelled. I'm open for suggestions.

For the first time in 90+years (I want to say 96 but not sure) Clever will be playing Football. My Willow Springs Bears will be their first opponent and we travel to see them. I dont know if any new people from that town will be on this site but looking for recommended places to eat for our people that will be going there. Thanks for all the recommendations
