MRVC Week 8

MRVC East
Holden (4-3) @ Carrolton (0-7)- Can Holden win out? Big team in the trenches. Have to limit turnovers. Turnovers kept Richmond in game last week.
*Knob Noster (5-2) @ Richmond (2-5)- Richmond started a freshman QB and RB in their tough 4 point loss @ Holden last week. Knob could score but couldn't stop the Huskers in their game.
Lexington (2-5) @ Higginsville Lafayette County (7-0)
MRVC West
*Harrisonville (4-3) @ Oak Grove (4-3)- Game of week on this side of the conference.
Pleasant Hill (6-1) @ Center (1-6)
Clinton (2-5) @ Warrensburg (4-3)
Non-Conference
*Chillicothe (3-4) @ Odessa (6-1)
Tiebreak-- spread of the 3 games with asterisks.

Drink fans unite

Up 13 in the 4th quarter and you have crossed the 50. It’s 4th and 1. You can put the game away. What did Drink do? He sent a clear message to his offense—I don’t trust you to get a yard. He sent a clear message to his defense—I don’t trust you to hold their offense.

Mizzou, at home, had to fight and get some breaks to hold on vs a team Bama beat 56-7 last week.

And running this Division 2 running back over and over. Come on man. Enough.

Class 3 District 4 Points

Moberly currently leads in points due to their conference opponents mostly being Class 4. Their 1 loss along with their play up points has put them in position to get the #1 seed but they must win against Jefferson City in Week 9. If they lose and Blair Oaks wins even by 6 points against Southern Boone then Blair Oaks will get the #1 seed by .07 of a point. Here is the math:

Moberly loses by 1 point and Blair Oaks must win by 6 points.

Moberly - 49.56
Blair Oaks - 49.63

Moberly wins by 1 point and Blair Oaks wins by max differential 13:

Moberly - 50.88
Blair Oaks 50.41

#3 seed will depend if Southern Boone wins against Blair Oaks and if so by how much. If Southern Boone loses they will get the #4 seed and Centralia will get the #3 seed (I expect them to easily beat Macon).
So there you have it. No more gray areas.

Districts in which a 6 or 7 seed have legit chance to win

It is often pleaded on this site that the first round district games are not competitive and that only the 1-4 seeds should be allowed in the "playoffs". I give you below a couple of reasons why maybe this would sometimes not be a good idea and it is only because of MSHSAA flawed point system (even though I believe it is a decent system, just needs some tweaks). I also believe that there is merit to only allowing seeds 1-4 in playoffs but just need to tweak system somewhat as evidence below.

Class 2, District 2. Balanced district with some oddities. Montgomery County is seeded 6th with a 6-2 record. They have already beaten the 2 seed (Hermann). If you look at the Cal Preps Predictor (not perfect, but fairly accurate and fun to look at), Montgomery County is favored by 2 TD's over the 1 seed. District championship game might be played in round 1 if seeds hold true as Lift for Life (favorite in this district but seeded 3rd) would play Montgomery County in round one. St. Pius Festus had to forfeit a win that affected the seeds even more. Just some interesting things going on here.

Class 5, District 1. St. Mary's is the 6 seed because they have played a brutal schedule. PB will end up 1 and Cape will end up 2. If you look at Cal Preps, St. Mary's vs. both Cape and PB are 1 point margins which is essentially a toss up. I could see St. Mary's winning this district. Likely Cape Central vs. St. Mary's semifinal matchup will be interesting.

Just two examples of IF only top 4 move on, you are leaving potential district champs out of playoffs. And you could say they needed to do more in the regular season, but heck, Montgomery County is 6-2 and beat the 2 seed. I know these are oddities but just thought these were 2 interesting examples. Are there others??
