I find no rhyme or reason as to how much they pay for what service. I'm sure they have a method they and doctors understand but it's all over the place as far covering the asking price I see on the EOB. I don't end up paying all the difference but it just looks plain silly to see the bill then what gets paid. I would guess if doctors and clinics lowered the price they ask for office visits and labs the insurance company would also lower the amount they will cover anyway.
It's that high because they try to charge that to uninsured patients.

I think that there was too many back room deals on the ACA.

Did it affect the drug companies at all?
Hospitals negotiated a rate for medicare/Medicaid patients. No restraints put in on what they charge everyone else?
3% tax on medical equipment that will be passed on to patients.
What malpractice controls were put in place?

If you want to control health care costs control what hospitals charge. Like Veer said, when have you not seen one adding on.
Control the cost of educating the doctors and nurses. Instead the govt has programmed everyone to bash on the insurance companies. All the govt did with the ACA was basically to help themselves.

At least it seems congress will agree on getting rid of the medical device tax. I don't know where that leaves the ACA when it comes to the revenue needed to keep up with the cost of subsidies for some. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

As my Uncle said about ACA ' there's a reason insurance companies aren't fighting this'. He retired from a high management position in Liberty Mutual recently.

We will go to single payer in my kids lifetimes. If you look around the world its the only logical ending to this. Meanwhile the rich get richer as long as they can.

They could charge $50 to uninsured patients and they might actually pay it. When they get a bill for an office visit that is $100 plus they're find some way to NOT to pay all of that. The doctors and clinics would still come out better than they do with insurance company payouts.

Probably since it's a big deal for the revenue side of the ACA, I don't recall. I guess we'll see if there is a enough support for an override.

Think of it like the first number they quote in a negotiation and it starts to make more sense. If even 1 in 10 pay it's a great deal for them. If they get a call asking for it to be lowered, they can cut it $25 bucks no sweat.

It's about $3 billion a year. In the grand scheme of Obamacare, that's not much. The real money is in the Medicare tax increase, then the reductions in unpaid care, then the Cadillac plan tax and the employer mandate.

It wouldn't shock me if it passed.
