Worst Display of Sportsmanship

I was at the Iberia-Richland soccer game this afternoon. It was a very rough game with a lot of fouls and people were hitting the ground a lot. The refs were doing a good job of officiating the contest. The tempers started to show and cowards the end of the game they showed. A Richland player Jeremy Potterfield and Iberia's Chris Cooke both got into it physically. The ref gave h players the red card, ejecting them both from the game. (Which I think was the Right call) The Richland player as he was walking off the field turned toward the ref and flipped him the bird. He also directed an F-bomb toward the ref loud enough for me to hear. (I was at midfield) This all happened 20 feet from the Iberia bench. It first I believed this Richland player was doing this to the Iberia player but he was already on the bench.

I know that Mr. Fields (Iberia's Principal) and the ref both are going to send letters to MSHSAA about this incident. This is the worst showing of sportsmanship that I have ever seen in my dealings with the Frisco League. I would hope that the Richland administration would have the class to suspend this player indefinitely. This took away from the integrity of this well played game. I know that If this kid played for me he would never play ever agian.

What does everybody else think about this poor decision? I think that this young man should be suspended from any MSHSAA activities for the rest of the year. That was a poor display and the worst part is that there was little kids at the game that had to witness that.

At Excelsior Springs last year against Kearney there was a similar episode. A Kearney player was very frustrated about losing. He flipped off the audience, kicked over the bench, and took a swing at the referee. For us it was a very embarrassing incident and we were very sorry at the time to be associated with Kearney. This guy was kicked out for the remainder of the season. However, he is back this year. Seems to have calmed down a little. Time will tell.
