When Davis is on his meds his OBP has been .361, .370. Without them he hit .196 in 2014. Which Davis will STL be signing?

Can they keep Adams too?

MO made it sound as if they have no interest in Davis. Can't wait to see Honny in the 4 spot for the 3rd year in a row.

He is the worst clean up hitter in the NL.
His ave. with runners in scoring position is abysmal. I thought STL was a Sabremetrics team?

Who's the best option in the 4 hole on this team right now? Grichuk gets my vote. We'll probably see too much of Adams/Moss/Honny in that spot this year though.

Grichy srikes out a lot.
I would like to see Upton or Cespeda in the 4 hole and Piscotti at 1st, but saber metrics say the Birds will be just fine if they keep getting walks. I still think the Birds are thin in so many positions with all the players they have trying to bounce back from injuries. Scares me.

Seriously, we need two bats and an innings eating starter (Leake). Gordon is a nice player but he has played only left field for the past five years. We currently have the albatross in left. I like signing Davis and keeping Adams. Then after this year, Davis goes to left and Adams/Piscotty can share first unless Adams starts hitting better.

If Piscotty hits anything like he did this year in the time he was up he needs to be a starter somewhere, not a platoon guy.

Yes. He could also play outfield sir.
Don't worry. Will he hit like that with 500
At bats?

I reckon we don't know that yet, but he sure as heck outhit anybody on the roster while he there. I say he HAS to get the chance to see if he does or not. Shifting guys all over the place is NOT a good strategy.

Sounds like the Cards are counting on Piscotti to hit like he did last year Hope is not a strategy and one can say this about all moves and non moves, but at this point the Birds are really a hopeful squad!!!

Agreed.

Grichuk does strike out a lot, but in terms of who else that's currently on this team right now who's a better option? Grichuk offers power potential that few on the team have. Piscotty seems to fit nicely as a #2 in the order and Carp should be hitting 3rd. Wong needs to develop his game as a leadoff man, focus on getting on base, and focus less on trying to hit 25 taters a year.

I had really hoped Wong would be that guy. But he hasn't shown any inkling of it to this point. He swings for the fence most of the time. He hit .260 with 11 HRs last year. I'd rather see him hit .290 and only 5 HRs and get his on-base up towards .400. That would really help the offense. But I'm just not sure he has that in him.

This experiment failed last year. Wong was not a good lead off man and Carp went into a severe slump when dropped in the lineup. Again these things are based on hope. The Cards were beat up and worn down at the end of the season and now your best starter and best hitter has gone to Cubbie land. I don't see how this team can be better as it stands right now. All I want for xmas is a #4 hitter and a starting pitcher!!! Is that too much to ask?

It's just a terrible situation when the guy who leads the team in HR's is your leadoff guy. He has few chances to actually do damage from the #1 spot. Wong has all of the tools to develop into the leadoff man and to me it falls on the coaching staff to develop him into that guy. I'm fine with him being aggressive early in the count or in specific situations, but otherwise his focus should be just putting the ball in play. With his speed he's bound to leg a few out here and there. Marp needs to get out of his own head. Which approach does he prefer? 2013 or 2015? That should answer where he's best suited to hit.

I'd prefer the Carp that hit .300 with 50 doubles, less HR's and WAAAY less strikeouts.

Joe Maddon disagrees.

Wong doesn't walk enough to post anywhere near a .400 OBP. He needs to hit closer to .290 to be a viable leadoff hitter

Now the Birds are saying they (hope) Yadi is ready by opening day after 2nd surgery on hand.
