Why the #%^* do we pitch to Yelich?

Because we brilliantly line up our starting pitching so our worst starter opens an important series vs the division leaders.
Tony LaRussa just rolled over in his grave.

He just did it again! Does anybody think the schedule is weird when your set to play a team in your division 10 times in the first month of the season? That's over half the games against them for the whole dang season. I guess we'll be playing some very important inter-leage games in September. :(

Ridiculous scheduling!

I also long for the days when the bullpen had a couple lefties that had a shot to get lefties out. I loved those Kline/King days. It really shouldn't be that hard to find lefties that can do a job. I've seen other teams. They have them. And don't pay a ton for them. The Birds...we get Cecil and some other scrubs. Be nice if Miller had a companion. Or a manager that could, I don't know, actually manage a bullpen.

I mean.......

You do know the Cubs are incredibly analytic based? And that they walked Bryce Harper 13 times in one series in 2016? Maybe you just need better nerds

The lefty specialist is about to die. Once the 3 batter minimum comes into effect, those pitcher's offer little value

Once I pass the "2 infielders on each side of second base, all within 130 feet of homeplate" rule, we will be rid of the drastic shifting and some of the nerds will be let go.

No more sinking line drive doubles to the gap in right-center caught by the second basemen 180 feet out. Bringin back the action!!!!

I'm not sure if you guys realized this or not (not being a smartass)

Yelich has 8 HR's this year. 7 vs STL. Might be time to utilize that free intentional walk

I disagree with this. Make an adjustment. There's no way in the world some of these guys (talking about you Marp) shouldn't be learning how to get on base with these shifts.

Yes! As my dad would say in a grumbling voice "you'd think for millions of dollars these dudes could learn to take a pitch the other way, or lay down a bunt".

Sorry. We will just have to disagree. The game was intended to be played with the "second baseman" playing between first and second base. It worked well and made the game incredibly popular for 100+ years.

This extreme shifting is like if football would allow plays with only 3 men on the line of scrimmage. Its just not the way the game was intended to be played.

If you hit a frozen rope in the gap you should have a freakin hit. Back in the good ole days I dont remember any fans saying "damn I wish we had placed our second baseman out there." Nor do I now hear them say "more strikeouts and less action! I love math!!"

It is time to lasso the math nerds and keep them confined to the corral before there is a stampede out of the stadium.

How about taking the chance of gettin tossed when you dust him off a couple of times. NOBODY should be that comfy in the batters box after hitting 5 or 6 HR's against you in the first month of the season! Where the hell is Gibson or Carpenter when you need them?

You won't ever get tossed for pushing people back. Intentionally hitting people is a trash move

Meh, if it's where it needs to be...not really. We've gotten soft with this kind of stuff. Keep it below the shoulders and all is good. Guys used to be able to get out of the way a bit too. Seems to be a lost art. I remember practicing how to take one/spin away from one. Guys are diving in so much now, that's not even in the script.

Add the body armor they wear now and it's easy to see why they dig in like they do. Then they still throw a hissy when one does get in on them.

Yeah, but it used to be guys throwing 90-92 with 1 guy maybe going 95-97. Now it's 97-99 with about 3 guys going 99-104.

Cutch was intentionally hit "properly" and had to miss a month on the DL. He couldn't even put on his shoes without help from people in the club house

Need to start walking pitchers now too, apparently. Opposing pitchers batting .800 (or at least it feels like it.) :(

Are you nuts? You don't think knockin a guy down that's killing you every night is ok? If you go in and he can't get out of the way then so be it, but you can't just let him stand in the box all warm and comfy every at bat. I didn't say try to hit him in the head. At least Wacha figured how to get him out tonight.

You don't read well, do you?

I said throwing inside and pushing them back is fine. I did that every time I pitched with a 2 seam

Intentionally hitting someone because you suck at your job of executing pitches is embarrassing

I think Bob Gibson, Chris Carpenter and whole bunch of other big time pitchers, would take exception if you were to say they hit, or knocked a guy down, because they sucked at their job. Heck I even take exception to that statement.

Then you, and the rest of them, are incredibly weak minded. If you threw a pitch that ended up over the fence, there is about a 99% chance that you threw a crap pitch

Execute and do your job. Hitting another player for doing their job shows how weak you are. Do your freaking job better and get them out.

I'm not sure I agree with this. There are a lot of guys that hit good pitches out. Granted, there are a lot of HRs hit on bad pitches too. Nothing wrong with aiming at a butt cheek. Guy can either get out of the way, or not.

There are always some good pitches hit out. I've seen Rizzo hit a ball in the RH batters box for a HR

Most times it's a 91 MPH cutter over the middle of the plate

You mean these hall of fame types that dusted off their share of batters that seemed to be too comfy in the box?

Pitch better

Walk the guy

And maybe.....I don't know... ..pitch better?

That would include busting some fastballs well inside so he has to worry about them and will stop diving out over the plate like he is playing wiffle ball in my back yard.

Throwing inside and pushing people back is completely fine. I've said this multiple times. Will never say different

Throwing at someone is a completely different thing

Lets be truthful. Dont take it personally. But this is a millenial thing. When you frequently pitch inside to power threats, sometimes you lose control of one and hit the dude. The last thing a freakin millenial wants is to be considered a "mean bully" who drills homerun hitters. Thus, Yelich and his teammates can dig in and not have to be concerned.

Most baby boomer fans I know have no problem with pitchers drilling bat flippers or mouthers in the backside. Its a generational thing .

To me it’s strange how the “old-timers” knew when they were going to get brushed back/drilled and took it as part of the game. Nowadays, the pitchers (for the most part), don’t try to hit batters, but hitters sure do take offense to anything close.
