And why would we EVER want to go to Mars? That project is already YEARS behind and BILLIONS of dollars over budget. We can't take care of the business at hand here on earth and our deficit and debt are ridiculous, why the hell are we spending a single dollar on more space exploration?

That tells me all I need to know about you.

1. We didn’t get enough of those rocks
2. Maybe they will bring back Tang
3. We could ship dark skinned immigrants up there for Trump and Dan

I have to agree with 3R on this one.

Space exploration in general, and moon exploration specifically is worth investing in for no other reason than it gives an uninterrupted history of near Earth impacts by asteroids. Since there's no volcanic or other geologic activity on the moon, every impact is documented. Further study could potentially show cycles with higher instances of impact, which could ultimately help us plan and prepare for future asteroid and meteor impacts on earth.

We can study it without putting men there and even that costs more than we should be spending when we we can't afford to rebuild our own infrastructure. Mars is a ridiculous expense that we most certainly don't need and can't afford.

Neat, I'm not specifically talking about Mars. My entire point was, to pretend there is no value to financing space exploration is short sighted at best.

Not to mention, the majority of those attempting to get to Mars are PRIVATE companies, Tesla, Virgin, etc. If billionaires want to spend their money chasing the red planet, that's their prerogative.

NASA has a plan to send men to Mars that they are spending money on everyday, THAT is our tax dollars. Some space exploration might be okay IF we could afford it along with fixing our roads, bridges, sewer and water systems and electrical grid. Detroit STILL has all kinds of crap in it's water after YEARS of 'talking' about it. There people that should be in jail over that fiasco! How many people do you think work for NASA on plans to do things we do NOT need to be doing with OUR money? I can't even imagine what the payroll is for NASA and how many of them are working on another MOON landing for absolutely NO good reason.

We CAN afford infrastructure spending, (NASA's budget isn't the problem) good luck getting Congress to approve anything of substance. Maybe in Trump's 2nd term he can just make an executive order for infrastructure improvements.

t rump doesn't want to improve infrastructure. Every time he sets up for meeting about it he goes off on a racist rant (Charlottesville) or walking out of White House meeting very shortly after it started.

Where do you propose the money comes from for fixing our infrastructure? I'm sure you would be ok with cutting medicare and SS like McConnell is.

I've stated over and over that defense spending could definitely be cut for infrastructure projects. But you don't pay attention or admit when I'm reasonable, because you'd rather bicker over petty crap.

They just increased defense spending by a LOT and Trump brags about it all the times I'm bettin it ain't coming from there. Nasa's budget could be cut a by a LOT to help pay for infrastructure fixes. There ain't anything on Mars or the moon that will help with the water in Detroit or the highways and bridges that are crumbling and certainly not to upgrade our electrical grid.

I know 2 families who have moved to Detroit and they say the water is fine. Much of the bad parts of town are being dozed. You either dramatize too much or are being riled up by whatever you watch (since you claim it isn't CNN).

Yeah and I wish they would cut defense spending. I'm not in Congress, other than my vote I have no control over where they allocate funds.

I WISH they would cut defense spending to focus on infrastructure projects.

Can you just take a second to admit I've taken a reasonable stance or is this really the hill you want to die on? Bickering about crap we essentially agree about, but you're so dug in you refuse to admit it.

I'll give you credit for that, there are so many of you guys against anything I say I can't keep up with who is who. BTW I don't plan to die on any hill because YOU don't like what I say on here.

Dude, I'm pretty reasonable 95% of the time, you literally go out of your way to disagree with everything I say even if it's something you agree with.
