Why are they selling tickets only online?

It always helps to know the ticket lady... ;)

The simple solution would be for MSHSA to provide schools a square machine to use at all postseason events and allow the gate keeper to sell a ticket at the event.

The machines are relatively cheap and each school would likely only need one.

That’s what you would do if you actually cared.

The sad reality is there are few if any schools that actually want anyone to care.

The problem with people caring about your program is they will care when you win.

And when you lose.

I don't know for sure but I would imagine it comes down to money and it's easier for them. Money goes straight to them instead of school collecting and transferring it. I assume their tech vendor handles all the coordination and just takes a cut that isn't really a "cut" it's an added fee passed to us at checkout.
For Monday nights district baseball game, it said online tickets only. There was an additional processing charge added on to the purchase. For MSHSAA to ensure they are getting all of their money, it is now costing me more. Hate it!!!

I thought about this post today. While I was coming home I saw a couple outside dollar tree with a sign that read "Please help no money for food and rent." I started to get a little cash and read the rest of the sign "Cash app-Angie###" I don't even have cash app and if they can afford a phone.

I bet someone at MSHSAA is getting a kickback somewhere

That's why I hate it in principle. Not because I can't figure out the new process. Everyone is paying more money to get more frustration so MSHSAA and their digital ticket partner can generate or at least control more revenue.

Maybe but I personally don't think it's that sinister. Their "win" is some kind of pitch that shows how other associations implemented this process and were able to capture X% more revenue from the same set of games. The kickback is that the vendor handles all this at no cost to MSHSAA. They just add their surcharge.

I don't know this to be fact, just guessing because I know that's how a lot of these things work.

Hmm. Seems like somebody is getting screwed in this situation. Can't figure out who it might be.

Only logical thing is if tickets are all online only, then that eliminates the possibility of a school for example taking in 1000 dollars gate fee, and only reporting 900 as they kept 100 for expenses. Agreed with someone said above they should have a square machine to be able to pay w a debit card onsite then.

Logical assuming your priority is customer satisfaction.

But this is a NO because then MSHSAA has to buy or at least keep track of and support all the readers. There will be cost in shipping or delivering them, and getting them from site to site each week. Then square or visa or whoever is going to skim ~3% off the top.

So this scenario is MORE work for MSHSAA with a net LOSS of revenue.

I heard it once said, many people profit off the backs of young athletes, except for those young athletes....who play the game just for the love of it.

So I went out and googled Hometown ticketing which is the company MSHSAA uses for tickets sales.
Interesting article on Hometowns CEO... and the money this company is making.
The Company Hometown is owned by Nexa Equity, which is a private equity company and here is a little bit about them..

Because it's easy to sell your service via surcharges passed on to the customer which is effectively a captive audience and there is no competition. If they were somehow prohibited from passing the costs to the end user it would not be a viable business model because MSHSAA would not cut into their own pie just for the sake of digital tickets.

There is a similar stink going on right now with the National Parks service outsourcing their camping reservations and permitting system to some "consulting" company with this same business model and everyone hates it. I believe there is actually a lawsuit. Same situation - NPS outsources it for "no cost", they no longer have to maintain a website in-house, meanwhile vendor rakes in a f***ton of money through a surcharge added at checkout.

Amen to that..!
