Who is the best high school basketball team in the state this year regardless of classification? There are a lot of good players, but who is the best team? The basketball season is a month away!

Chaminade is the top high school basketball team in Missouri by far. Chaminade is in a class of their own. The talent goes way beyond the top eight or rotation players. I believe one could make the case " About having to much talent " to win a class 5 state championship. I believe Chaminade could field two well balanced teams that could win two state championship in any of our 5 classes. Chaminade's 10-15 man could win class 1 or 2 .

I'll also make the claim that Chaminade could defeat an " All Star Team " from our 550 plus high school teams in Missouri. Do we have anyone out there who believes I'm a little high on Chaminade and disagrees with the above?

Park Hill South seemed to get the job done last spring against the same cast...all star team of 550 hmmmm

MoSportsStaff, I take it you are disagreeing with Chaminade not being the most talented and the best high school team in Missouri. ( Fair enough ) Let's get to it and name a Missouri high school all star team that could matched up with Chaminade. MoSportsStaff and others please name your " All Star team "? This will be fun to see who you name as your all star team.

Mike Lewis------------6'1" Senior
Jayson Tatum--------6'9" Senior
Tyler Cook------------6'9" Senior
Will Gladson----------6'10" Senior
Jericole Hellums-----6'6" Soph.

I'm sure Barstow could hang with them! Barstow has the best recruited basketball athletes from the KCMO & KCKS area.
No one in class 3 will come close to them this year they will easily 20pt beat everyone on there way to the state championship.

I agree with Metro-Dude as it relates to talent, but can they play together as team with all those players. Tolton will have talent and has had talent, but have not won state title thus far in their class.

I am pretty sure they were the favorite to win it all last season! Did not quite work out that way. Basketball is a long season and anything can happen on any given night. We will talk in march or wins it all.

I have been around high school basketball for a long time and I have never seen anything close to the talent @ Chaminade. I can remember the Poplar Bluff years with the H's but they were not even close as a team to Chaminade. Tyler H. is the only player on the Poplar Bluff squad who could compete @ Chaminade. Ben H. might get playing time but very little if the 6'9" Jayson Tatum is playing @ guard. No other player @ Poplar Bluff make the Chaminade team.

Chaminade was entered in the Webster Jam last year, if they are back, it would be worth the drive to see this group play. I am certain, no seats are available for any of their games in St. Louis this year.

The 2010-2011 Big East Player of the Year wouldn't have got major minutes on this year's Chaminade team? C'mon metro.... I know you're retort will be that "he wasn't the same player in high school" or something along those lines, but good grief. Looking forward to the future of college basketball if Chaminade alone has 6 or 7 guys that will win their league's MVP honors in major D-1 basketball.

I understand that they are loaded with talent, I get that 100%. Watched them play last year and couldn't agree more, but don't you think you're overhyping them a bit?

I am just saying.... Basketball is a long season and do not be counting championships just yet. No doubt they should win it... I am pretty sure Michael Porter could make the team. LOL...

I ask for a Missouri all star team that could defeat Chaminade. Michael Porter is one competing player. Who are the remaining 5-6 players as your Missouri all star team? I'm still waiting on " MoSportsstaff to name a competing all star team but they have been a no show to date.

Chaminade IS an allstar team. Many teams don't get to have any player they want.

Sometimes All-Star teams play like All-Star teams. I saw Chaminade play a lot last year, and they certainly are talented, but ... they look and play like an All-Star team.

Chaminade should be doing on the boys side what Incarnate Word and Rock Bridge have been doing on the girls side. Those programs have put together all-star teams, and then actually went out backed it up on the court. Maybe this is the year Chaminade figures it out. I sure hope so.

As for Chaminade beating a state-wide all-star team. No way. The talent state wide is pretty high state wide this year. Michael Porter, Jahntay Porter, Jeriah Horne, Carte'Are Gordon all come to mind and that's just the front court.

If they come down to Springfield and win the Tournament of Champions next January where there will be other All-Star teams, then you'll have me convinced they could beat a state-wide all-star team. Not until then though.

Totally agree. The proof will be in the pudding, and with Chaminade in past years that proof has been lacking. You don't need 5 stars to make a great basketball team. In fact, it can be detrimental. Maybe this is the year they put it together, but the hyped up team that is described in this thread should coast to a TOC title. I don't see that happening. Keep in mind, when Beal was with Chaminade, they went 0-3 in the TOC.

Now... regarding the "unrecruited" teams -- I saw a great matchup this summer between Lee's Summit and Kickapoo. Even without Drew Lock, Lee's Summit looked great. Both teams should be contenders for the best public school team in the state this season. And, I might add, they both play as teams, not all star teams.

I totally agree with mowesten and EdmundBlackad concerning the ' Tournament of Champions ". Chaminade has a chance to compete well or even win this tournament. The all star team mention above could not defeat Chaminade. Do you really believe Jahntay Porter is ready for all star status. I like Cart'Are Gordon and Michael Porter but they are a step behind the big two from Chaminade. I will not agree that the players mentioned above could defeat Chaminade.

Park Hill South must have had an "all-star" team last year in the semifinals.

MoSportsStaff, Could you post the 4 teams in the Webster Groves Jam next month? This could be our only chance to see the talent @ Chaminade since they will be " Sold Out " for all of their games in St. Louis. In your opinion, do we have any teams in St. Louis that could compete with Chaminade? I'm sure glad Park Hill South is not in St. Louis. If we have a Park Hill-Chaminade game in the state championship games, are you on Park Hill?

That is where you started putting in individuals and not the team Metro.... Jeffrey Porter, Chase Allen and Kobe Wands would help compete against Chaminade.. All-star teams tend to get bored and that is when they slip up like in the semi-finals last season. Again, they are definitely the favorites to win it, but it is a long season and long time until March. Best of luck to everyone real soon.

Chaminade could have to much ' Star Power " to play team basketball. We must remember Jayson Tatum is one of the top 2-3 high school basketball players in the America therefore the ball will be in his hands most of the time and this could take away from the team game. How many coaches out there would take the ball out of Jayson Tatum's hands in favor of a " Team Game "? The coach @ Chaminade is in a tough situation because of the expectations and the talent on the team.

Metro,
This is not a state-wide All-Star team but simply players that were in games in which I sat on the bench last year.
I would take my chances against Chaminade with:
Jordan Barnes v Lewis
Michael Porter v Tatum
Carte' Are Gordon v Cook
Jeriah Horne v Gladsen
Xavier Sneed v Hellems
At the very least, I would pay a premium to watch the game.

par5in2, as uasually did his homework. The all star team could indeed challenge but in my opinion Chaminade would win by 10 plus points because of Jayson Tatum and the fact the challengers are an " All Star " team.

Jordan Barnes--Mike Lewis-I'll go with Mike Lewis in this one. Mike is 6'1" and Jordan is about 5'9"
Michael Porter-Jayson Tatum---Michael Porter is a junior while Jayson Tatum is a senior. I'll go with Tatum and so will all scouting services in America.
Care"are Gordan-Cook--This a close one but Gordon is a sophomore. I'll go with the experience but not by much. I would go with Cook.
Jeriah Horne-Gladsen---Very close but Horne could be a step ahead of Gladsen. Gladsen will play @ the next level.
Xavier Sneed-Hellems---Xavier is a senior while Hellens is a sophomore. I can not go with experience in this one because Hellens will be the face of Chaminade after this season. I would take Hellens in this one and you will to when you see them play. Hellens was a freshman last season. The only good thing about a freshman is " He will be a sophomore next year.

Vianney will be good this season but they play in the Metro Catholic league with Chanminade, SLUH and CBC. the top two will be Chaminade and SLUH while Vianney and CBC fights it out for third. Desmet will be much improved and could get a few upsets win but on paper they will be in 5th best team in the a strong Metro catholic league.
